Together with AthletesCAN, we’re on a mission to determine the most trending moment of the year in Canadian sports as part of the 2024 Canadian Sport Awards. Congratulations to Farkhunda Muhtaj for being the first player ever signed to Calgary Wild FC! Farkhunda has been an incredible ambassador for Respect Group and, with this move, continues to elevate women’s sport across Canada! We can’t wait to watch her suit up for the hometown club 🙌

Shawn Shvartshtein, currently a League 1 player with Vaughan SC, aspires to become a professional soccer player. He is exploring both university and academy routes after graduating from Bill Crothers Secondary School. A versatile midfielder, Shawn has attended tryouts with several European academies and is a member of the Ontario Provincial team. His dedication was evident in his recent achievement as the 2024 League 1 Ontario U20 Men’s Final Champion. Shawn shares how his perspective in sport has changed after completing the Respect in Sport program.

Saleena Banga, a winger for Vaughan SC’s League 2 Team, was instrumental in their championship-winning season. She started playing soccer at age 4 and recently represented Team Ontario’s U17 girls’ team. Saleena is a rookie student-athlete at the University of Rhode Island. Tune in as she shares how Respect in Sport training can empower young leaders. 

We, at Respect Group Inc., a headversity company, just concluded a special collaboration with Ontario Soccer and Vaughan Soccer Club. We worked together to address the critical need to foster safe, respectful sports environments, with a strong focus on recognizing, reporting, and addressing bullying, abuse, harassment, and discrimination. A special thanks to Johnny Misley and Ontario Soccer for their continued dedication to promoting respect in sports.

Did you know that unresolved grief can significantly affect your performance and mental health? Yet, according to research by the Marie Curie Charity, 43% of bereaved employees feel pressured to return to work before they’re ready. 💖 Acknowledging and addressing grief is the first step to healing. If you are experiencing grief, take time to process your emotions and seek support from colleagues or professional resources. If you're supporting a colleague, friend, or family member through grief, offer a listening ear, respect their need for space, and encourage them to express their feelings.
