2024 Alumnus of St. Francis Xavier University, with a BBA in Marketing and a minor in Sports Management.

It’s hard to put into words the gratitude I feel for being apart of something that has impacted so many. On March 13th at the inaugural Pucks for Purpose Charity Hockey Game, our society, and the entire St.FX community came together and raised $55,000+ for the Canadian Cancer Society and motionball for Special Olympics. Being apart of such an awesome committee and putting in months of hard work with everyone was truly an amazing experience. I walked into our first team meeting filled with ideas, and somehow we ended up here…. in front of 1,250+ screaming fans, in a ‘Barbie pink’ suit with a microphone in hand and was told to “Just go have fun with it” From all the BET99 merchandise giveaways, trivia questions, and of course the Central Nova Subaru Shoot to win challenge, Being the MC at the Pucks for Purpose Charity Hockey game is a memory I’ll never forget. Huge thanks to Luke White, Danny Laursen and Emma Quirin for allowing me to be apart of such an incredible event, none of this would’ve been possible without all of your efforts. I’m excited to see what the P4P committee can pull off next year and for many years to come. Go X Go! #PucksforPurpose #HockeyFightsCancer #stfx

St. Francis Xavier University Alum. Kinesiologist at CBI Health - Antigonish

Last week, I was fortunate enough to take part in the inaugural Pucks for Purpose charity hockey game at St. Francis Xavier University This event set out to instill its place in our Xaverian culture, bringing together the community, while raising funds for motionball for Special Olympics and the Canadian Cancer Society. All together, this event raised an outstanding $55,000 which will be split between these two great causes. I set a fundraising goal of $250 which I was able to surpass it, reaching $275! Thank you to all donors, you are truly making a difference! Thanks to my teammates, I was given the honour of representing team Art-Sci as team captain and faced off against business team captain, Reid Russett, in the inaugural puck drop with StFX legend, Father Stan. The night was further elevated by a heartwarming speech from Sadie Anderson, a 13-year-old warrior who triumphed over cancer, and Alex Dearden, a Special Olympic athlete, who belted out O'Canada, leaving us in awe. With a packed house of over 1250+ people, it was a thrilling night with over $6000 in raffle prizes such as a round-trip flight voucher from WestJet, and the thrill of a shoot-to-win Subaru contest. This night was truly something special and I’m very thankful to have been apart of it. Shoutout to the event organizers who made this all happen and everyone else who either donated, watched from home or came out to support! I’m very excited to follow this event for years to come as it further cements its legacy here at StFX and continues to raise funds for these two great causes!

First LinkedIn post ever, so I figured it should be about something important. Six months ago, I was sitting next to Luke White in class when he told me about an idea he and a few others were working on. It was a charity hockey game between the Business and Art-Sci faculties on campus called Pucks for Purpose, and he asked me if I could make him a website. I had no idea what I was actually agreeing to when I said yes. Fast forward to last Wednesday, we saw that idea come alive. Over 1250 students, faculty, and locals showed up to our game where we raised $55,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society and motionball for Special Olympics. There are too many people who were involved to individually thank them all, but I do want to acknowledge everyone who made this event possible. From our chairs, my fellow directors, the rest of the exec team, our army of brand ambassadors, faculty, sponsors, athletes, and the fans. We could not have done it without you all. I do want to give a special thank you to everyone that was on my marketing team. The photographers, videographers, editors, and even our friends who acted in our videos. It's safe to say we did better than any of us expected and set the standard high for what's to come next year. A few statistics I wanted to share about our marketing team's effort this year that I am particularly proud of: In our first year on a campus of fewer than 6000 students: - We grew out social media page to the most followed society page at StFX (1,300+ and growing) - We got over 500k total impressions across our content - We reached over 60k unique accounts with our media I can’t wait to see what the marketing team and the whole of Pucks for Purpose will accomplish next year as we build upon our success. #pucksforpurpose

One week ago, we hosted the inaugural Pucks for Purpose charity hockey game at St. Francis Xavier University. It was a huge success, between filling the rink with 1200+ excited fans, and raising $55,000 for Canadian Cancer Society and motionball for Special Olympics I am proud to be a part of the Executive Committee that organized this charitable event. I specifically worked as a part of the Marketing Team, where we promoted the game and everything else related. At a school with less than 6,000 students, we grew our Instagram page to 1,300+ followers, making it the most followed society at StFX University. We reached over 60,000 unique accounts with our media, amassing 500,000 views. I am very thankful to have been a part of this amazing cause and a team of great people who made this happen. I'm looking forward to remaining involved next year to make this a tradition.

Advanced Accounting Major @ StFX | Portfolio Manager @ Xaverian Capital

It has been 1 week since the puck dropped for StFX's first ever Pucks for Purpose charity hockey game, and the Executive Committee and I are pleased to announce that it was an absolute success! I worked alongside Quinn Caplice in the Operations department and specifically oversaw pregame and intermission entertainment to engage fans. I also collaborated with vendors and sponsors from the community to optimize fan experience. With months of hard work and coordination, we were able to raise over $55,000 for both the Canadian Cancer Society and motionball for Special Olympics. The 1200+ fans watching were in for a thrilling game between the top hockey talent from the Business and Arts/Science faculties. Thank you to the Committee, the fans, the players, the sponsors, and everyone involved in making this historic event come to life. Can't wait to run it back in 2025!

Last week, we raised $55,000+ at the inaugural Pucks for Purpose Charity Hockey Game at St. Francis Xavier University for the Canadian Cancer Society and motionball for Special Olympics — all in front of a packed arena!!! To say I'm amazed is an understatement; a few months back, this would have seemed like a pipe dream. The anticipation was thrilling, with 1,250+ people queued up outside of the arena, buzzing to witness the clash between Business vs. Arts/Science students. The stage was set when both teams made a dramatic entrance onto the ice through a haze of smoke and dazzling lights. The night was further elevated by a heartwarming speech from Sadie Anderson, a 13-year-old warrior who triumphed over cancer, and Alex Dearden, a Special Olympic athlete, who belted out O'Canada, leaving us in awe. Talk about inspiring! It was exciting and rewarding to see months of planning come to life. From the adrenaline-fueled stands to Father Stan's iconic puck drop, live player and coach interviews from the bench for the livestream, to our MC Nick MacInnis in his Barbie-pink suit, the night was a series of unforgettable highlights. Not to mention the excitement of a $6,000 raffle with major prizes such as a round-trip flight voucher from WestJet, and the thrill of a shoot-to-win Subaru contest, all culminating in a 10-7 victory for Business. Reflecting on this day, earlier this school year I had a hopeful dream to fill a void on campus that brings together the community for something impactful and fun, and I am filled with gratitude. A massive shoutout to my fellow Co-Chairs Danny Laursen and Emma Quirin, our student directors (Quinn Caplice, Molly Kennedy, Benjamin Kozak, Nick Kennedy, Lindsay Gorman and Kyra Strom), the other 17 students on our organizing committee, our Brand Ambassadors, and to StFX and the university's President Andrew Hakin for the support. Another huge thank you to our sponsors, whose belief in our vision turned this dream into a reality — especially when all we had to show for it was a slideshow and initially, not even a logo for our event. And of course, thank you to the fans, players and all the generous donors. We’ll be back bigger and better next year!
