Ready for a rest after a great time at #PSEWeb 2024! Some of my favourite moments: 💡 Lots of useful takeaways in Suzanne Dergacheva and John Cloys, CSPO, CAPM, CPACC's presentation, “Revamp or redesign: Navigating the crossroads of website revolutions”. Very pertinent for us as we work through migrating our 1,000+ websites to #Drupal 10. ☑ Good insights in Negin Neghabat-Wolthoff's presentation “Website Development for an International, Heterogeneous Audience”. Always appreciate getting a look into other’s processes. ⚡ I also really enjoyed Janus Boye's presentation, "Let's Make Digital Smarter, Safer and More Sustainable", especially the segment, "There is no I in AI (yet)". Very pertinent. And coming in second at the cornhole tournament at the evening social event has made my list of all-time favourite conference experiences ever! It was wonderful as always to catch up with friends old and new. Looking forward to seeing you at #PSEWeb 2025! #HigherEducation #Community

I had such a great time at #PSEWeb - Canada's Higher Ed Marketing Conference on July 10 & 11. Despite the crazy heat in Olds, Alberta, we stayed cool in the AC and learned from each other, networked, and had a lot of laughs. I met folks from Denmark, NWT, Texas, Quebec, New Brunswick, BC, Ontario, Alberta...The staff was amazing and worked so hard to make the convention a success, and the food was good, too! I will definitely consider going again next year. Increasing student engagement isn't about the content you teach, it's about the person you bring to the classroom. Yesterday, I had a chance to speak at the #PSEWeb - Canada's Higher Ed Marketing Conference#PSEWeb - Canada's Higher Ed Marketing Conference#PSEWeb - Canada's Higher Ed Marketing Conference to discuss what it means to engage, inspire and motivate our next generation of students in higher education – specifically international students. In my experience as an educator at York University School of Continuing Studies and Conestoga College School of Business, I've noticed that international students come with unique personal, financial, and societal challenges. These issues can't be solved by support teams alone. As educators, we are the primary touchpoints for their studies and bear significant responsibility in helping them navigate their new life in Canada. Here are a few insights I shared about what we as educators need to become to support and engage our students: 1. Emotional Intelligence and Empathy Understanding and addressing the emotional needs of students fosters a supportive learning environment. Empathy helps us connect on a personal level, making students feel valued and understood. 2. Connection to the Real World Bridging classroom learning with real-world applications enhances relevance and engagement. When students see the practical impact of their studies, they are more motivated to learn and succeed. 3. Cultural Competency Being aware of and learning diverse cultural backgrounds helps in creating an inclusive classroom. This competency allows us to tailor our teaching methods to better support each student's unique needs. These sound simple but ultimately it is the passion, energy and commitment of the educator to pour their guidance into our students. Remember, it's the small acts of kindness and understanding that can make the biggest difference in the lives of our students. 🌟 Still thinking about the knowledge gained and connections made at #PSEWeb - Canada's Higher Ed Marketing Conference in Olds, AB! 🌟 😊 The presentation on our work with Université de Saint-Boniface was a hit! Adrienne Smith and Nathalie Roche spoke about implementing the university’s values in a new digital environment. 💭 The discovery process was elaborate here, and the audience had lots of questions for Adrienne! 💭The multi-year project aims to better integrate the user experience of students, prospective applicants, and others, and to comply with accessibility standards. It was all-around a great occasion to connect both with Montreal friends and Albertan colleagues at the pleasant campus of Olds College of Agriculture & Technology. Presented to a packed room and an online audience about the state of recruitment email marketing in Canada today at #PSEWeb - Canada's Higher Ed Marketing Conference! Successfully squeezed 63 slides full of data, graphs, screenshots and opinions into 40 minutes. Looking forward to finding other ways to share the info from this project in the future! Not to bury the lede, but I also became the conference cornhole champion today.
