At COP16 Colombia, the Plant Based Treaty team joined a powerful discussion on the protection of nature and animals, emphasizing their recognition as rights-bearing beings in Colombia. During their visit to the Eco Barrio El Aguacatal, they promoted plant-based urban gardens as a way to foster harmony between people and nature. Joined by Vegancornio, a playful character encouraging reflection, they inspired attendees to consider how peace with the planet can start with our food choices. Ending fossil fuels alone will not solve the climate crisis; we must also phase out animal agriculture and transition to a plant-based food system to meet the Paris Agreement’s target of limiting global warming to below 1.5°C. It’s inconsistent for COP29 - a climate-focused conference - to serve animal products, which undermine these vital goals. Plant-based foods are more inclusive, environmentally sustainable, and free from harm to animals. The Plant Based Treaty Asia team conducted Plant Based Culinary workshops at the Royal Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (RITH). Following the workshops, the principal of RITH signed the Plant Based Treaty Pledge, agreeing to integrate the Plant Based Culinary Transformation Course into their curriculum. Good news 🎉 City of West Hollywood has unanimously endorsed the Plant Based Treaty and will recommend that the U.S. government and other national governments negotiate a Global Plant Based Treaty. The unanimous passing of the Plant Based Treaty in West Hollywood, a city known for its progressive policies aimed at creating a better future for its constituents and all life on this planet, marks a significant milestone. Big news from the Big Apple! 🍏 New York University (NYU) has signed up for the NYC Plant-Powered Carbon Challenge and pledged to serve more plants as it aims to cut food-related carbon emissions. NYU joins Columbia University, The Rockefeller University and Fordham University who have already signed up! By taking part all the educational institutions have committed to reducing their food-related carbon footprint by 25% by 2030. 👏

Approximately one third of all greenhouse gas emissions is estimated to come from food production. Plant-based diets can reduce emissions by 75%, compared with diets containing even moderate amounts of meat. Advocates of regenerative farming argue for its potential to mitigate these impacts, but research from Oxford University suggests that even the best-case scenarios for regenerative practices fail to offset emissions adequately, making it an insufficient solution on a large scale.” https://lnkd.in/gZg-tf7c
