Africa Online Safety Fund Second Phase Empowers 22 Organizations from Seven Countries. Twenty-two organizations from seven different African countries have recently received grants ranging from US$10,000 to US$50,000 through the Africa Online Safety Fund. This initiative, led by the South African social impact advisory firm Impact Amplifier entered its second phase thanks to additional funding from Google Operations Center. The Africa Online Safety Fund aims to discover innovative solutions to online safety challenges. In its first phase, the fund supported 26 social innovators across nine African countries, each offering unique approaches to address online safety concerns. Now, in its second phase, with a commitment of US$1 million, the fund has selected 22 organizations as beneficiaries. Six of these organizations hail from Nigeria: Access Drive Capacity Development Foundation, Comcastle Plus (Trading As Epower), LagosMums Foundation, Techsocietal, Teens Can Code and Zikoko Citizen. Five organizations from South Africa have also been selected: Centre For Analytics & Behavioural Change City Of Johannesburg Library and Information Services, Global Leading Light Initiatives, Media Monitoring Africa, and Wolfpack Information Risk (Pty) Ltd. Ghana and Kenya each have four ventures represented. In Ghana, the selected organizations are Ghana Internet Safety Foundation, iWatch Africa, My Power App, and Penplusbytes. In Kenya, the ventures include Boltech Consultancy, Terre des Hommes Netherlands, Watoto Watch Network, and Wezesha. The remaining organizations in this cohort come from various countries: Internet Society Cameroon, Somali Women Journalists’ Rights Association - SOWJRA (Sowjra) in Somalia, and Safety n Us Trust in Zimbabwe.
