#tbt to the Northfield Campus project in #waterloo! ✨ MTE was pleased to offer civil and structural engineering services for the development of Northfield Campus. This project included four buildings on a 37.5-ha site, a roundabout, and offers multiple workspaces for businesses. In 2008, MTE developed a Servicing Master Plan taking into account access, circulation, servicing upgrades and relocations, and utility services. The four- and five-storey office buildings were constructed using structural steel with precast concrete exterior wall panels and curtain wall glazing. The three two-level parking structures were built using reinforced, poured-in-place concrete. MTE’s structural group provided the engineering design services related to all of these structures. 📸 Martin Simmons Sweers Architects Inc. #mteproject #civilengineering #structuralengineering

#tbt to the Carl Zehr Square project! ✨ Located in the heart of the City of Kitchener, City Hall is fortunate to be surrounded by two public squares that encompass Carl Zehr Square. The space is used to host festivals and markets throughout the year. 🎉 After 27 years of use, these areas and structures beneath them were in need of restoration and new protection systems. The city used this as an opportunity to improve accessibility, provide new low-maintenance hardscapes, and make the spaces more functional and inviting. Our Civil engineering team was retained by the project’s Prime Consultant to complete a site assessment. MTE went on to complete the final engineering design of the plaza, including the detailed site grading and servicing design. Our Building Restoration team was engaged to address wear and tear in heavily used areas, as well as to assess the structural and protection systems of the podium deck supporting the spaces and the granite and terra cotta cladding systems. Throughout construction our team provided full-time construction review and project management. Now the Square is enjoyed year-round! 🙌 #kitchener #dtkitchener #zehrcarlsquare #civilengineering #mteproject #buildingrestoration

#tbt to the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University project, built in 2017! 🟡🟣 Wilfrid Laurier University with support from the provincial government, embarked on this state-of the art facility to meet the growing demands for enrollment in the school’s business and math programs. As the engineering firm that has worked with the University on other projects, MTE was part of the consultant team that delivered this important project for the University's community. MTE initially provided environmental engineering services through a Designated Substance and Hazardous Building Materials Audit, the preparation of a Demolition Plan for the prior building. Our civil team then completed the site grading and servicing, and stormwater management design and assisted the project team through the site plan and building permit approvals processes. MTE also completed the topographical survey and prepared the salt management plan for the site. The building is designed to LEED Gold standards. For this aspect, MTE collaborated with the mechanical consultant and landscape architect to integrate a rainwater cistern into the stormwater management design that collected and recycled rainwater to be used for irrigation and for grey water applications.
