MMC’s Ally Dhalla, MBA, CHE, Senior VP, Pharmacy Services & Vincent Kwok, Clinical Director, Pharmacy Services were pleased to participate in a discussion this week about developing & implementing strategies to prevent and mitigate drug shortages. The summit, hosted by the Canadian Generic Pharmaceutical Association and the Canadian Association for Pharmacy Distribution Management, was attended by stakeholders, experts and professionals. #MohawkMedbuy brought an important perspective to the Toronto event. MMC negotiates contracts for pharmaceutical drugs and other medical products on behalf of hundreds of Canadian hospitals – and created MitigAID, an innovative program that helps minimize the impact of manufacturer supply disruptions on patients and health care providers. We look forward to the ongoing collaboration to address this important issue.

I’ve dedicated my entire 37-year nursing career to The Ottawa Hospital with a consistent focus on surgery—my true passion. As a charge nurse in the pre-admission unit, I’m responsible for making sure everything runs smoothly so that our patients are fully prepared for their procedures. Over the years, I’ve also taken on the vital role of patient education, working closely with patients to help them understand what to expect and how to prepare for their big day. Despite the challenges, I find immense joy and fulfillment in my work every day. It’s back-to-school time and MMC is celebrating the joy of learning with ESG training for our Members. The course, developed in-house by our ESG Team, supports #MohawkMedbuy Member hospitals by promoting awareness and understanding of environmental, social and governance issues, why they’re important, and how they can drive change. The course also includes information about the federal Modern Slavery Act (Bill S-211), including what MMC is doing to support Member hospital reporting requirements. The training is formatted for Learning Management Systems – ensuring easy access to all hospital staff.

Excellent reminder during #LivingDonationWeek from this #MohawkMedbuy Member about the potential for living donor transplants to save lives.
Each year, living donor transplants save the lives of hundreds of Canadians awaiting a liver or kidney transplant. Living organ donation offers a shorter pathway to better health with a less wait time and better health outcomes than a deceased donor transplant. Yet many Canadians are not aware of living organ donation. #LivingDonationWeek (September 8-14) is a national awareness week focused on improving access and equity in living organ donation. This week invites the living donor and transplant community to come together, celebrate and spread the word about this life-changing gift, and everyone who makes it possible. Launched by The Centre for Living Organ Donation at UHN in 2020, Living Donation Week is now celebrated annually across Canada and beyond, starting the Sunday after Labour Day.
