New developments in Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) ➡️ ERW has emerged as one of the most exciting removal pathways today, with its potential for scale and high-durability through its acceleration of the natural carbon sequestration cycle. Last week Cascade Climate released its “Foundations for Carbon Dioxide Removal Quantification in Enhanced Rock Weathering Deployments”, a community-developed document focused on distilling the best available science and considerations for quantifying each component of ERW carbon and cation fluxes to drive quantification rigour behind ERW operations. Cascade followed up the Foundations document with its ERW Data Quarry, and its MRV Cost Estimator, pulling together >1,000 global measurement cost estimates from quarries, academic and commercial laboratories, and ERW suppliers. https://lnkd.in/e7qK4ECD Today, Puro.earth released an update to its ERW methodology, with more detail around key MRV requirements, and incorporating new developments in weathering science and field data. The CCS industry is seeing signifiant growth with over 600 projects now in the pipeline — a 60% increase year-on-year (Global CCS Institute, Global Status of CCS in 2024). CO2 capture capacity under construction is up by 57%, highlighting the rapid scale-up of carbon management solutions. Mangrove Systems’ CEO Brandon Vlaar has been appointed to a new expert working group under Gold Standard's pilot program for digital Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV). This working group is focused on assessing the potential of digital technologies to enhance the accuracy, transparency, and efficiency of monitoring and reporting for credit origination and verified impacts under Gold Standard for the Global Goals (GS4GG). Participating projects will have the option of issuing credits more frequently through an “interim issuance track”, speeding up access to finance for project developers who want faster access to their credits than historic certification routes allow. The Government of Canada announced yesterday that it has committed to procuring Carbon Removal to help reach its goal of net-zero emissions in Government operations by 2050. Last week, British Airways became the largest purchaser of carbon removals in the UK following its deal with CUR8 to buy 33,000 tonnes of CDR credits from its portfolio. We’re thrilled to see our customers CarbonRun and The Carbon Removers (prev Carbon Capture Scotland) selected within this portfolio purchase for their innovative removal projects.
