Meet Kenya Roper, a Professional Expert in Managing Impulse, Fear & Transition in the Marketplace. Kenya grew up as a member of this city and always had a passion for the children who are left behind not academically, but emotionally. Children are left with the trauma of negative experiences, influence, and distractions. Some are not in an environment where anyone is intentional about creating positive memories because we all just strive to achieve day-to-day survival. For this reason, Kenya responded to the call to be a Leader at the young age of 23, one year after graduating from Ramapo College, with her Bachelor’s in Psychology, when she was offered and accepted the position of Assistant Director of a Residential Facility under the agency Volunteers of America. Kenya's role was to provide the necessary guidance for twelve youths who were transitioning to adulthood and supervise 3 employees. When that assignment ended, Kenya began a Social worker position in Newark. After holding the position of social worker for 9 years at Newark Preschool Council Head Start, managing over 80 children and families at 11 preschool sites, Kenya was laid off. At this time she was forced to expand her knowledge and apply it at a New Jersey Department Of Corrections treatment facility for men who were to be reintegrated back into society. There Kenya worked as a treatment counselor, later promoted to Senior Case manager, supervising 3 employees as well as the program which supported the rehabilitation of men and women who were approved to be paroled to a less restricted environment. Who knew that after a short time this position would be discontinued? Kenya would then be offered a position as a Program Director of a before/after-care program at Right At School, LLC, supervising the program of up to 32 children and 3 employees serving the Kearny School District. This opportunity changed her life. Kenya was permitted to exercise creative control given by the Administration for a curriculum-driven program. In this role she had the best experience, her soul was fed, and she could exemplify all her creative thoughts while implementing social-emotional learning for all students who attended including exceptional learners.
