  • Does your research require a Mi'maw Ethics Review? The MEW, hosted through Unama'ki College, encourages the highest standards of ethical research of Mi’kmaw people with the importance placed on cultural sensitivity, informed and prior consent, capacity building, the protection of Indigenous knowledge, and Mi’kmaq voice in the conclusions drawn from the research.  Questions to ask yourself: 🔎Does my research involve collective Mi'kmaw knowledge? 🔎Does my research involve gathering data from Mi'kmaw people in Mi'kma'ki? 🔎Does my research have the potential to impact Mi'kmaw treaty rights? • October is Mi'kmaw history month in Nova Scotia - a time meant to recognize, learn, and celebrate the vibrant Mi'kmaw communities across Mi'kma'ki. In this video, we hear from Roddie Gould, a resident of Ni'kinen. He shares his story and the impact it has had on his life - and how it helped save him. Mawita’mk ('Being Together') is a volunteer-led, Mi'kmaw organization that celebrates and supports the gifts of Indigenous people and youth with disabilities. Ni'kinen House (Our House) was opened in Waycobah First Nation in 2007. It was the first community group home on a Reserve in Canada. Mawita'mk focuses on community based and culturally informed care. Watch Roddie's story here: https://lnkd.in/eiJ9FHr9

  • 🖥️ IONS is developing an Artificial Intelligence toolkit for community impact organizations in the sector to better understand AI, explore how it can support our operations, and reimagine ways of working that allow for more accessibility and flexibility. We want to collaborate with the sector on this toolkit by learning more about the sector's needs and uses of AI. Check out the poll below!

  • 🧡 September 30th, 2024 marks the fourth annual day for National Truth and Reconciliation and as we head into October (Mi'kmaw History Month), we know reconciliation and decolonization are ongoing, deep commitments. And though this day and month gives us pause to reflect, celebrate, engage with community, and learn - the work is a continued effort that involves reciprocity, relationality, and action every day. Today, the IONS team is taking the opportunity to engage with National Truth and Reconciliation day with our families at local events, in quiet reflection and art, reading, listening to Indigenous storytellers, attending a local offering, etc. In doing so, we hope to to continue to challenge our assumptions and practices, and to reflect on what it means to be a Treaty Person and to share and care for this land and all beings in Mi'kmaki. As a team, we will come together and share our learnings as a group activity. Beyond this day, we can continue meaningful conversations and actions toward reconciling our shared history. We encourage you to name one thing you can do today and moving forward to try to decolonize your own practices. We invite you to encourage others around you to do the same.

  • This graphic recording outlines what we heard and the recommendations presented based on our community engagement of The Nova Scotia – Canada Action Plan to End Gender-based Violence. Focusing on the current state and our future state, IONS worked with front line workers and organizations who work in gender-based violence prevention and intervention across the province. How do these highlights resonate with your organization? https://lnkd.in/ey8Fu9Bz
