About us

Indspire is an Indigenous national registered charity that invests in the education of Indigenous people for the long-term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities, and Canada. With the support of its funding partners, Indspire disburses financial awards, delivers programs, and shares resources with the goal of improving educational outcomes for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students. Through Indspire’s education offerings, we provide resources to students, educators, communities, and other stakeholders who are committed to improving success for Indigenous youth. In 2020/21, Indspire awarded $20 million through 6,246 bursaries and scholarships to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis youth, making it the largest funder of Indigenous post-secondary education outside the federal government.

Now, more than ever, our world needs #caregivers...people like Dominique Baptiste, a third-year nursing student at Lakehead University who’s supported by our Building Brighter Futures: Bursaries & Scholarships (BBF) program. Dominique chose nursing because she wants to meaningfully support her community and Indigenous peoples. As an intergenerational residential school survivor on both sides of her family, she’s witnessed the lasting effects of residential schools and experienced many losses at a young age. Fiercely committed to a better future, Dominique ultimately wants to work in an Intensive Care Unit, serving Indigenous communities or vulnerable populations as a registered nurse or nurse practitioner. She aspires to educate those around her about First Nations health and communities while being a strong advocating, improving the quality of care that Indigenous individuals receive. By supporting caregivers like Dominique, you’re not only putting #reconciliation into #action…you’re sustaining circles of care that spread outward across Turtle Island, creating change that will last for generations to come. And that’s a powerful day’s work – not just on Sept 30th, but every day of the year. 🧡 To find out more about how you can help with this work, click on the link below. 👇 https://lnkd.in/e8rUngTq #NDTR #OrangeShirtDay #EveryChildMatters #Indigenous #IndigenousPeoples #NationalDayForTruthAndReconciliation

Sometimes, when we focus on the (VERY important) big picture, it’s all too easy to lose focus on the many smaller pieces of that picture – and how they all fit together to create something powerful. Today, we’re looking at the true impact of reconciliation in action: the stories of the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students who are shaping the future of Turtle Island through their educational pursuits. 🧡 One of these students is Myles Olson, a proud Ojibwe and Cree member of Long Plain First Nation. Growing up off-reserve in Vancouver, he and his siblings stayed connected to their culture, firmly rooted in love, thanks to the efforts of his father (a day school survivor) and his mother (a Sixties Scoop survivor). He’s currently supported by our Building Brighter Futures: Bursaries & Scholarships (BBF) program, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in science at the University of British Columbia. His passion for science, instilled in him by his grandmother, has always been a driving force. Myles chose this path to honour his parents, who never had the opportunity to pursue post-secondary education due to the racism they encountered and the lack of support available. By entering this field, he wants to change the landscape, showing other Indigenous students that pursuing higher education is not only possible but essential – and that Indigenous students can thrive in these spaces just as much as anyone else. Today, if you’re interested in learning more about just how powerful #reconciliation through #education can be, click on the link below and create your own way to be part of the big picture. 👇 https://lnkd.in/e8rUngTq #NDTR #OrangeShirtDay #EveryChildMatters #Indigenous #IndigenousPeoples #NationalDayForTruthAndReconciliation

Today, we’re spending time out of the office with our friends and family, commemorating the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation in ways that keep us connected to truth – and to each other. We honour all of those whose lives were changed by the residential and day school systems: those who survived, those who never came home, and those who carry the generational impact of this legacy. 🧡 On this day for reflection, we invite you to share this …and to share the message that every day is a good day for #TruthAndReconciliation, not just Sept 30. #NDTR #OrangeShirtDay #EveryChildMatters #Indigenous #IndigenousPeoples #NationalDayForTruthAndReconciliation

Remembering the importance of our traditions – or learning about them for the first time – is a remarkable journey…and it’s one we want to share with you. The Two-Row Wampum is one of the very first treaty agreements Indigenous peoples made with settlers, and its principles are more relevant than ever today. Join our Rivers to Success (R2S) team on Oct 28, 2024, at 2:00 pm ET for Embracing Tradition and the Two-Row Wampum, a free virtual session which will not only guide you through the importance of the agreement itself, it’ll also give you the opportunity to create your own two-row wampum bracelet. The first 200 people who register will receive free kits with the materials! Our guide for this session will be the wonderful Elizabeth (Betts) Doxtater, an active multimedia artist, educator, writer and youth-artist advocate. Born and raised on the Six Nations of the Grand River, she recently co-authored Restorative Journey: Indigenous Educational Wellness in friendship with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT). Join Betts and our R2S team for this very special experience. 👇 https://lnkd.in/e63-54XM #RiversToSuccess #R2S #Indigenous #IndigenousPeople
