Raising funds to improve patient care, support innovative research and advance technology at HSC Winnipeg.

About us

Through the generosity of its donors, the Health Sciences Centre Foundation supports the medical teams who provide care at Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg through promising research initiatives, new technology and facilities, and training for HSC staff. Donate HERE: https://www.hscfoundation.mb.ca/donate/ HSC is Manitoba’s flagship hospital with specialized support for trauma, neurology, burn, and transplant patients. Money raised by the HSC Foundation supports patient care in these areas, and also enables researchers and physicians to learn about new ways to improve care even further at facilities like the Kleysen Institute for Advanced Medicine. By supporting our efforts you are bringing hope to life for loved ones in our community!

  • After a traumatic bike accident, Leanne Taylor embraced parasports during her rehabilitation at HSC. Now, after six years of hard work and determination, she has become a world-class athlete in Para triathlon and will be representing Canada at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. “I decided early on that I wanted to build a life after the injury that was so positive that I wouldn’t want to undo it,” Taylor says. “And, after qualifying for the Paralympics, I think for the first time I can say, yes, I’ve done that.” Read Taylor’s story: https://lnkd.in/epAJVQvZ   Please join us in cheering Leanne Taylor on and wishing her the best of luck!

  • Today is #FeelGoodFriday—what better time to celebrate the incredible work being done by the Medical Careers Exploration Program (MCEP)! MCEP for Indigenous Youth is an innovative initiative that provides students with hands-on experience and the opportunity to discover a wide variety of health care professions. The program provides educational support and encouragement needed to pursue careers in health care. The HSC Foundation was proud to fuel learning as the students were on-site at HSC this past spring. Special thanks to Shelly's Indigenous Bistro and Feast Café Bistro for catering the lunches—the food was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed by all!

  • It’s a day that most Manitobans will never forget, but it’s a day that Mary Hudyma can barely remember. Hudyma, an 80-year-old resident of Dauphin, was one of 25 passengers on a bus that was struck by a semi-trailer near Carberry on June 15, 2023. The passengers—mainly seniors from Dauphin—were heading to a casino for the day. Seventeen people lost their lives in the crash; Hudyma was one of eight passengers who were seriously injured. “It’s a blur,” says Hudyma of the deadliest highway crash in Manitoba’s history. “I don’t remember the impact and I don’t remember being thrown from the bus. Apparently, I called my son to tell him that I survived, but I don’t remember that either. I was probably in shock.” Read Hudyma’s story: https://lnkd.in/eq9Tyqqe

  • “The care at HSC is individualized, compassionate, expert, and simply phenomenal. The doctors, nurses, and other hospital personnel are focused, patient, and caring. I am thrilled that the new Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and Unit B5B have opened—not just because it will mean better care for Tom and so many other patients like him, but also because these new spaces and the new technology will give our talented personnel what they need to do their best work for Manitobans,” says Pat and Phil Trottier, parents of epilepsy patient Tom Trottier. With your support of our annual Innovation HSC campaign, Health Sciences Centre can acquire the latest, state-of-the-art equipment and implement new programs and practices to improve outcomes for patients like Tom. Through Innovation HSC, not only can HSC keep pace, but HSC can set the standard for health care excellence. Learn more and donate today at https://lnkd.in/gYz9JDw9.

  • A hit from behind just before Raegan (Trapmore) Milani turned 18 didn’t just damage her vertebrae, it shattered her dream of playing university-level hockey. “I was going around the net and I twisted in an awkward position,” says Milani, who played defense for the AAA Winnipeg Ice. “The other player cross-checked me and pinned me to the boards. She cracked my back and held me in a really awkward position. When she finally let up, I dropped right away and lost feeling in the lower half of my body.” Read all about Milani’s road to recovery and the care she received at Health Sciences Centre, thanks to Operation Excellence donors: https://lnkd.in/e7nzAWCf

  • Our hearts are feeling rose-y! Earlier this year Health Sciences Centre was in full bloom at the Mother’s Day Mums sale, with all flower sales going towards patient care at Manitoba’s hospital. Thanks to the incredible work of the Bell MTS and RBC volunteers, including HSC patient Jason, we sold out of flowers in just four hours! Unbe-leaf-able! A big thank you to everyone who supported this year’s sale.

  • As the saying goes, ‘Build it and they will come.’ With the establishment of the donor-funded Wilf Taillieu Thoracic Surgery Clinic and Endoscopy Unit at Health Sciences Centre in 2019, patient care has been positively impacted through reduced wait times and streamlined procedures. As a result, another promising new thoracic surgeon has joined the team, Dr. Gilly Akhtar-Danesh. “It’s unique to have your own dedicated thoracic endoscopy unit. Most other thoracic centres in Canada don’t have anything like this,” she explains. “It’s essential for helping patients navigate their diagnostic journey quickly and efficiently.” Learn more about the newest member of HSC Winnipeg’s Thoracic team at https://lnkd.in/e2TCuUV4.

  • Your decision today; your impact for all time. The Bannatyne Legacy Circle is a community of supporters committed to supporting Health Sciences Centre by endowing a final gift to the Foundation when they pass away. There is no minimum gift, and you never have to disclose the amount in your lifetime. All endowed gifts are valuable for all time, and all gifts inspire others to give.
