Did you know that nearly 20% of seniors in BC report feeling a lack of companionship, with one-third at risk of social isolation? This growing issue is especially present in places like Victoria, where seniors often face challenges such as mobility issues, dispersed families, and limited social opportunities. It's essential that we, as a community, continue to advocate for more inclusive, accessible services for our aging population. By addressing senior isolation, we can improve the overall health and well-being for older adults. Healing Hounds is a new therapy dog service designed to enhance the quality of life for seniors in our community through meaningful interactions with therapy dogs and their handlers. 🐶 #SeniorCare #CommunitySupport #MentalHealth #VictoriaBC #LonelinessAwareness #HealingHounds

How do therapy dog visits improve the quality of life for seniors?🐶❤️ Today, we had the honour of visiting a widow with mild dementia, invited by her loving children after the loss of her beloved dog. This visit was a beautiful reminder of the power of the human-animal bond. Our therapy dog, Moro, brought a spark of joy and comfort to her day. The calming presence and gentle nature of our therapy dogs provide a unique form of support, especially for those facing cognitive challenges. The visit not only brought back cherished memories but also offered a moment of peace and connection during a difficult time. Therapy dog visits are more than just moments of companionship; they are an essential part of holistic care for seniors. Here’s how these visits make a difference: 🐾 Emotional Support: Therapy dogs offer unconditional love, reducing feelings of loneliness and anxiety. 🐾 Cognitive Engagement: Interacting with therapy dogs stimulates memory recall and communication skills. 🐾 Physical Benefits: Gentle petting and walking with therapy dogs encourage mobility and physical activity. 🐾 Social Connection: Therapy dogs facilitate social interactions, helping seniors connect with caregivers, family, and friends. At Healing Hounds, our mission is to bring the healing power of therapy dogs to those who need it most. We are dedicated to creating positive experiences and improving the quality of life for seniors in our community. If you or a loved one could benefit from a therapy dog visit, or if you know someone who might, please reach out to us. 🐶❤️ Contact us at [email protected] or (778) 922-7297 #HealingHounds #TherapyDogs #SeniorCare #DementiaSupport #HumanAnimalBond #CommunityWellness #MentalHealth

Did you know the US gymnastics team has their very own four-legged therapist? 🐶 🤸🥇 Meet Beacon, an adorable and sweet young Golden Retriever who’s been named MVP (Most Valuable Pup). 🐾 Beacon was one of 16 therapy dogs involved in the US Gymnastics Championships and demonstrates the team’s commitment to emphasizing the athletes’ emotional well-being. Although Beacon couldn’t join the athletes in Paris due to logistical challenges, his influence during the trials was significant. Competing at the Olympic level is not only physically demanding but also mentally exhausting for these international athletes. Therapy dogs like Beacon offer immense support by alleviating stress, reducing anxiety, and reminding athletes that their worth and value aren’t tied to winning medals. 🐕❤️ #TherapyDogs #MentalHealthMatters #EmotionalWellness #AthleteSupport #MentalHealthAwareness #SupportAnimals #WellnessJourney #HealingHounds Image source USA Today

Introducing Moro, our sweet therapy dog from Mexico who’s a pro at naps, snacks, and making new friends! 🐶😊💕 This lovable adventurer hails from a quiet Mexican fishing village called La Ventana. Fondly known as Mellow Yellow, Moro has been brightening lives as a therapy dog in Victoria since 2018. Moro’s days are filled with her favorite things: food, naps, and scenic hikes through the forest. When there’s no fiesta, you’ll find her in a cozy siesta, recharging for her next adventure. With her gentle demeanor and loving nature, Moro brings joy and comfort to everyone she meets. 🐾💜 #TherapyDog #HealingHounds #mexicanrescue #AnimalAssistedTherapy #fourleggedheroes

"Over the years, I've gained ✨ invaluable insights ✨ into the qualities that make certain dogs excel in therapy work. One surprising revelation has been the significance of finding a dog whose temperament aligns well with the handler’s personality. Through my experience, I've discovered that my ideal partners aren’t the overly playful or the extremely laid-back and confident dogs. Instead, I work best with dogs like Haven, whom I rescued in the summer of 2022. Initially shut down and fearful due to her past, Haven has grown into a highly intuitive and affectionate therapy dog. As she learned to trust me, she blossomed, becoming eager to gently interact with people from all walks of life. There isn’t a single set of traits that define an amazing therapy dog. Much of their success stems from the unique chemistry between the handler and the dog." -Taylor Chastain Griffin, PhD

Pet-friendly offices might be (one of) the best motivators! I love that we’re able to cross paths with both human and canine colleagues at Royal Canin, because the latter bring numerous benefits to the workplace. I recently came across a very interesting article that shared testimonials from Associates at Mars Petcare India. They observed the positive impact of bringing their dogs to work, both on themselves and their colleagues. The presence of pets contributes to positivity in the workplace, enhances efficiency, and strengthens social relationships, among other benefits (I can speak out of my own experience with Filloa and Gyoza!). It's incredible to see how pets can reduce stress and anxiety by lowering our cortisol levels and increasing our dopamine, the hormone of happiness. It's all positive, whether at home or at work! Read the full testimonials here: https://lnkd.in/dxyZRqit.
