Exciting news from Guelph General Hospital! This week, Mark B. Walton, Julie Anne Byczynski, Dr. Hood, and Dr. Namis unveiled a special plaque in the Family Birthing Unit to honour a groundbreaking life-saving procedure performed at Guelph General Hospital in 1991. It was the first time in Canada that the 'Zavanelli Maneuver' was performed—saving both a mother and her newborn. 'It's a beautiful thing', when Khalil Khamis and the Harvey's team take over at Guelph General Hospital. This team is like a well oiled machine at the BBQ and their talent at the grill is exceeded only by their incredible generosity. Thank you to all who came out to support this annual tradition. This is where it all started! Over a decade ago my family started an annual Harvey's BBQ out front of the Guelph General Hospital to support our community’s healthcare through the The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital. Naturally, through this event, I got to know the amazing folks at the foundation well. This turned into me applying for a board position. No idea what to expect as it was it was my first non-profit board role, talk about scary. But I knew I loved this group of people and their mission of transforming healthcare through giving. Something always just feels so great about contributing to the community we live in. Over a decade later I am so proud to be tbe Chair of the Board of this incredible organization…who knew the fear would turn into a leadership role! And the tradition of our annual BBQ continues with 100% of the sales going to The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital. You know summer is here when the Harvey's Guelph team comes to Guelph General Hospital! As part of our Local Businesses Care for GGH program, Harvey’s will be hosting their annual fundraising BBQ at Guelph General Hospital on Thursday, July 18th from 11AM – 2PM. For a $7.00 minimum donation Harvey’s offers an original or vegetarian burger, along with a drink and a bag of chips. It was a pleasure to host the Honourable Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health at Guelph General Hospital today. We had a wonderful tour of our facility where we shared what makes our hospital great as well as some of our existing challenges and solutions we have in store for the future. The tour included our emergency department and triage trailer, where we expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health for funding our most recent capital improvement project that will see advances to this area of service. Thank you for your continued support and help to deliver on our mission of ‘Exemplary and equitable care for and with our community’.
