🌏 EMN was super grateful to attend the 2024 AU ERAS+ World Congress of Prehab & Periop Medicine, in Melbourne Australia earlier this month! 🔬 Highlights for us included sessions on nutrition and nutraceuticals as therapy in perioperative medicine, exercise as medicine in perioperative medicine, and the ability to participate in a master class educating on nutrition, psychology and behaviour change for prehabilitation. ✨ It was inspiring to hear first hand, the experience of a patient who had access to surgery school prior to an elective procedure and how these learnings translated to an accelerated recovery post op. 👏 It was also incredible to learn from the passionate health professionals who are pushing barriers everyday to make prehabilitation and ERAS the standard of care in surgical settings. #getenroute #surgery #nutrition #ERAS Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists

👩⚕️ Prehabilitation, including nutrition, can improve outcomes for esophageal cancer patients. 🏋♂️ A recent study using EMN’s medical nutrition products found that nutrition can substantially increase quality-of-life scores for esophageal cancer patients when combined with exercise programs prior to surgery. 💪 This type of cancer is associated with high mortality rates largely due to difficulty swallowing, which can quickly result in a significant decline in nutritional status. The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Society continues to lead the way for research and implementation of evidence-based perioperative care pathways. This has a huge global impact. 🔬 Exciting sessions this year covered "Postoperative Insulin Resistance - Friend or Foe", "Making a Difference with Prehabilitation", and "Muscle-Targeted Interventions for Sarcopenia"... to name a few! 🤘 Even more data shared that highlights how these guidelines reduce risk and improve outcomes.
