Today, we honor the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day serves as a reminder to reflect on the lasting impacts of residential schools, acknowledge the survivors, and remember those who never returned home. EMLCanada stands in solidarity with Indigenous communities, recognizing the importance of truth, education, and healing as essential steps toward meaningful reconciliation. Together, we move forward in the journey toward understanding and building stronger, united communities across Canada. #TruthAndReconciliation #EveryChildMatters #IndigenousRights

Day 1 at Canadian Emergency Preparedness and Climate Adaptation Convention was an amazing experience full of learning and connections! Scott Cameron Cameron and Dr. Jeff Donaldson, PhD (Preparedness Labs Inc.) presented on Social Capital, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Whole of Society, highlighting the importance of collaboration in resilience-building. We also attended an insightful panel discussion featuring: - Jodi Manz-Henezi (Canadian Risk & Reduction), - Bernie Derible (Ontario Public Service Leadership | Leadership dans la fonction publique de l’Ontario ), - Adam McAllister (UN-ARISE Canada ARISE Canada), - Michel Dore (University of Quebec in Montreal), and - Leon Gaber (KPMG Management Services LP). It was great to meet our platform members and connect with vendors at the exhibit. The collaboration between public, private, and government sectors is truly inspiring, reaffirming our mission to enhance Emergency Preparedness across Canada. All photos are from yesterday — more to come as we continue to share our CEPCA journey! #Resilience #DisasterRiskReduction #CEPCA2024 #EmergencyManagement Horizon North

Great session today. Whenever brilliant people have a chance to engage in meaningful and focused conversations - amazing things can happen. Data from today’s discussions will be used by the Canadian Journal of Emergency Management (CJEM) to generate a report of the proceedings. Thanks to Simon Wells and the team onsite today for their dedication to #emergencymanagement in Canada and the opportunity to elevate our collective voices. #wholeofsociety
On behalf the Canadian Journal of Emergency Management (CJEM), we want thank all the participants joining us today on the first day of the Canadian Emergency Preparedness and Climate Adaptation Convention. Many workshop participants travelled from across Canada, and we are incredibly thrilled to have such a diverse group of experts in the room with us today. This demonstrates a shared commitment to advancing the field of emergency management. Input from today's session will contribute directly to CJEM’s second think tank report, which will be submitted to the Department of National Defence to inform research and drive meaningful policy changes in the areas of emergency preparedness and national security. This workshop is a collaboration between the Canadian Journal of Emergency Management (CJEM), CEPCA, and funded by the Department of National Defense through the Mobilizing Insights in Defense and Security (MINDS) grant. Thank you to the CJEM team and Scott Cameron for making this happen!

Our Co-founder, Scott Cameron, was supporting the Canadian Journal of Emergency Management (CJEM) by helping to facilitate a full day workshop at the Canadian Emergency Preparedness and Climate Adaptation Convention in Ottawa. At Emergency Management Logistics Canada, we believe in the power of collective action. When we can work with others and support their efforts, we all win! Thank you, Shawna Bruce, CD for sharing your summary. It’s such an important part of learning together.
Today, I attended a transformative Capstone Policy Workshop hosted by the Canadian Journal of Emergency Management (CJEM) and the Canadian Emergency Preparedness and Climate Adaptation Convention (#CEPCA). It was fantastic to connect with so many LinkedIn connections I had yet to meet in person -and to add a few more to my network after today. Scott Cameron did a fabulous job guiding us through a series of thoughtful questions where we delved into critical areas of mitigation and preparedness. Some of the key takeaways for me included: ✔ Adopting a holistic and nationalized approach to disaster AARs that can be shared and leveraged (think Near Misses in industry or Transportation Safety Board.) ✔ Ensuring raw data can be interpreted to support decision-making at the local level. ✔ Bridging public and private partnerships to build trust and awareness. ✔ Building social capital across municipalities, regions and provinces using existing community networks through an EM lens to promote education and "tie-ins." (Not all networks see the value they bring to their community during disasters.) Much of the conversation has been discussed before, but this time, the highlights will be shared in a report compiled by the talented Sara Kallas (#CJEM)so that we can review, discuss and adopt key elements as appropriate. It was an excellent reminder that holistic discussions bring robust solutions. #EmergencyManagement #CommunityResilience #CrisisPreparedness #DisasterResponse Josh Bowen Scott Cameron Tiffany Leung Danielle Trudeau, CEM, ABCP, MDMa Simone Stawicki Jeff Donaldson, PhD Dave Brand Bettina Williams, MA (DEM) Darren Blackburn
