Are you sending your team signals that they should trust or doubt you? There is a chemical reaction in the brain that promotes or prohibits trust, and it works like a mirror. If you give trust, you are more likely to receive it. When employees feel accepted, trust is established. Collaboration, connection and creativity flourish. However, when employees feel like they're not fully accepted, their threat response and defense mechanisms are activated. They lack trust, and that can sabotage teamwork.

When a problem arises, stop yourself from giving those you lead an immediate answer. Instead say, “I have some thoughts, but I would love to hear what you think first.” Then, bite your tongue and listen. After they respond, say, “Tell me more,” and listen again. Thinking before you speak interrupts your natural tendency to jump in with solutions, and it gives those you lead a chance to come up with solutions on their own. #leadership #neuroleadership #coaching
