We’re thrilled to announce that our President & CEO, Jane Talbot, CPHR, SHRM-CP, has been featured in this month’s BCBusiness! In an insightful conversation with Nathan Caddell, Jane shared her thoughts on safety concerns, optimism for the future, and the strategic priorities for the downtown core and BIA. "You have to remember that while Nordstrom wasn’t performing well across Canada, the Downtown Vancouver location was doing well, outperforming some of their other flagship stores in the U.S. So I’m hoping that narrative is out there for other organizations and businesses that are thinking of coming in." Downtown Van is upset to hear about the unprovoked stranger attack on a visitor to our downtown core this weekend. Our thoughts are with the victim, and we commend the bystanders, as well as the Vancouver Police Department who acted quickly to assist and ensure the suspect was apprehended. Meaningfully addressing community safety concerns is pivotal, and the moment to act is now. As we approach the provincial election on October 19, it’s essential that we urge all candidates to prioritize community safety. Downtown Van advocates for a holistic approach. One that: 1. Commits to additional funding to provide comprehensive support for those living with mental health and/or addiction. 2. Introduces a multidisciplinary strategy – inclusive of additional funding – to address repeat offenders. 3. Partners with local municipalities to provide additional funding for law enforcement.
