On September 30th, we mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day is dedicated to honouring the children who did not return from residential schools, as well as recognizing the survivors, their families, and their communities. Acknowledging the painful history and lasting impacts of residential schools is essential for the reconciliation journey. It serves as a reminder for all of us to focus on building meaningful connections with Indigenous Peoples in Canada. Throughout September, we have provided our employees with resources to deepen their understanding of Canada's history and encourage them to engage in local community events to show their support. Our goal is not just to reflect but to make a tangible difference through informed action and community support. Let us all commit to honouring survivors, their families, and communities as a crucial part of the ongoing reconciliation process, today and into the future. With school back in session, let’s talk lunch safety! 🍎 To keep homemade lunches fresh, pack them in a soft-sided insulated bag with at least two cold sources. You can use two frozen gel packs or a frozen juice box and water bottle. Place these cold sources on both the top and bottom of the food to keep everything cool and safe at 40°F or below. For hot meals like soup or chili, use an insulated container. Preheat it with boiling water, then add your hot food and keep it sealed until lunchtime. Don’t forget to discard leftovers, used packaging, and paper bags after lunch to avoid contamination. For a no-refrigeration option, try whole fruits, hard cheese, canned meats, chips, and more. #TalkingHSEQTuesday #BacktoSchool #SafeLunch #HSEQinEverythingWeDo #DexterraGroup

Ensuring safety during lightning is crucial for maintaining a secure and healthy work environment. ⚡ Lightning is the electrical discharge between charged particles in the sky and the ground or other objects. The force of a lightning discharge is extremely powerful and can cause serious injury or death for persons struck by lightning. How is lightning detected and what actions to take? • Human detection: If you see lightning or hear thunder, use the 30-30 rule. If the lightning flash and thunder are within 30 seconds of each other, STOP and relocate to a safe location. • Lightning detectors: If it alarms, a local storm is present, and all personnel must move to a safe location. What are safe locations in the event of lightning? • Fully enclosed buildings • Vehicle or equipment cabs with windows and doors closed • Note: all personnel must come down off structures and be removed from confined spaces. Crane lifts must also stop. How long do you stay in a safe location? • At least 30 minutes has passed since the last lightning flash or • There is more than 30 seconds between lightning and thunder or • The lightning detector no longer alarms. 💡 Ensure there is training and a plan in place for everyone's safety. #TalkingHSEQTuesday #LightningSafety #HSEQinEverythingWeDo #DexterraGroup
