Pleased to see that Vancouver has climbed to 6th place in Condé Nast Traveler's annual Reader’s Choice Awards for the world's best large cities—up two spots from last year!🏆 The write-up notes that from our vibrant arts scene to the stunning natural landscapes that surround us, Vancouver is a destination that has it all. To quote Condé Nast, “there’s something wonderful about visiting a city where you can be in the heart of a metropolis eating a five-star meal one day and enjoying the skyline from the seat of a kayak the next day.” And a shout-out to our friends in Destination Greater Victoria for topping the Reader’s Choice list of small cities. Monday 30 September is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation providing us with an opportunity to honour survivors of the residential schools, their families, and communities, and ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of those schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process. It is also an opportunity to learn about Indigenous culture and history across Canada. Here are some of the ways you can get involved: 🟧 Wear orange for Orange Shirt Day, also September 30th - an Indigenous-led movement started by Phyllis Webstad to honour residential school survivors and their families. 🌎Find out whose land you’re on: The relationship between Indigenous peoples and land is sacred and unbreakable. This interactive map from Native Land will show you all of the indigenous communities across Canada https://native-land.ca/ 📖 Educate yourself: Read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's 94 Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. 👐 Donate to the Orange Shirt Society or Indian Residential School Survivors Society. 📢 Support and invest in Indigenous businesses. You can find a list of our Indigenous business members on our website here https://bit.ly/3zxhzCv Destination Vancouver gratefully acknowledges that we live, work, connect and welcome visitors to the traditional, unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh).
