From exposure to hate speech and violent content, to personal targets of hate and harassment, reported levels among those aged 16–29 are 30 to 50% higher than the overall population. Trust in social media platforms to act in the best interest of the public continues to fall. For example, 55% of Canadian residents have low trust in TikTok – compared to just 8% who have high trust in the platform. So where do Canadians place their trust? Canadians trust public libraries (89%) and schools (81%), as resources to learn about digital literacy and misinformation: significantly higher trust levels than the news media and the federal government.
