Today, as we observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the team at Canadian North are reflecting on the significance of this day and the hope it brings. As a 100% Inuit owned business, we recognize truth and reconciliation every day. We are proud to serve Inuit Nunangat by bringing people together, delivering essential goods and services, and providing safe and always-friendly customer service to 25 communities in the North. This means, in spite of the challenges and ongoing effects of colonization, every day we get to see the resilience and strength of colleagues and the communities we serve. We are hopeful for a brighter future. One where relations are repaired, and people can prosper. And while we use this day to reflect, we can also use it as a call to action. It is a marked opportunity for us to engage with one another. To listen, to have respectful conversations, and to learn from each other. Listening and learning lead to meaningful change and growth. We hope members of the extended community will take time today, and every day, to join us in these important conversations, so that together, we can make life better for the communities we serve. Last week members from Canadian North’s Board of Directors and Executive team hosted an intimate groundbreaking photo opportunity at the site of our new cargo facility at the Ottawa International Airport Authority YOW / Administration de l'aéroport international d'Ottawa YOW. Slated to open in 2026, our investment in this new, 43,000 square foot purpose-built facility, with support from the Government of Canada through its National Trade Corridors Fund, will enable us to address the expanding needs of our northern communities while providing improved service to all our customers. Canadian North is proud to play a crucial role in the northern supply chain, delivering food, medicine, municipal supplies, building materials and other essential goods throughout Inuit Nunangat on behalf of our customers, partners and stakeholders. // ᐱᓇᓱᐊᕈᓯᐅᓚᐅᖅᑐᒥ ᑲᓇᐃᑎᐊᓐ ᓄᐊᑦ ᑲᑎᒪᔨᖏᑦ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐊᐅᓚᑦᑎᔨᖏᑦ ᐊᔾᔨᓕᐅᖅᑕᐅᔪᓐᓇᓚᐅᕐᒪᑕ ᖃᓗᕋᕆᐊᓯᓪᓗᑎᑦ ᓴᓇᔭᐅᕕᐅᒐᔭᖅᑐᒥᒃ ᓄᑖᕐᒥᒃ ᐅᓯᓕᖅᓱᐃᕕᒃ ᐋᑐᕚ ᓄᓇᕐᔪᐊᕐᒥ ᖃᖓᑕᓲᒃᑯᕕᖓᓂ. ᒪᑐᐃᕈᒫᕐᓂᐊᖅᑐᓂ 2026−ᖑᓕᖅᐸᑦ, ᑖᔅᓱᒧᖓ ᑮᓇᐅᔭᓂᑦ ᐊᑐᕐᓂᕗᑦ ᐊᑑᑎᖃᑦᑎᐊᕐᓂᖅᓴᐅᓛᖁᓪᓗᒍ 43,000 ᑭᑉᐹᕆᑦᑐᑦ ᐃᓯᒐᑦ ᐊᒥᓲᑎᒋᓂᖏᑦ ᒪᓕᑦᑐᒋᑦ ᐊᖏᓂᓕᒃ ᐱᔾᔪᑎᖃᖅᑐᓂ ᓴᓇᔭᐅᓯᒪᔪᖅ ᐃᒡᓗᕐᔪᐊᖅ, ᐃᑲᔪᖅᑐᖅᑕᐅᓪᓗᑕ ᑲᓇᑕᒥ ᒐᕙᒪᒃᑯᓐᓄᑦ ᑲᓇᑕᒥ ᑕᐅᖅᓰᕕᒃ ᐊᖅᑯᑎᖓ ᑮᓇᐅᔭᖃᕐᕕᖓᑎᒍᑦ, ᑲᒪᒋᔪᓐᓇᖅᓯᓂᐊᓕᖅᑕᕗᑦ ᑭᙴᒪᒋᔭᐅᔪᑦ ᐅᑭᐅᖅᑕᖅᑐᒥ ᓄᓇᓕᐅᔪᑦ ᑎᑭᒍᓐᓇᕐᓗᒋᑦ ᐱᐅᓂᖅᓴᓂᑦ ᐱᔨᑦᑎᕋᖅᓯᓐᓈᕈᓐᓇᖅᓯᓗᑕ ᑕᒪᐃᓐᓄᑦ ᐱᔨᑦᑎᖅᐸᑦᑕᑦᑎᓐᓄᑦ. ᑲᓇᐃᑎᐊᓐ ᓄᐊᑦ ᐅᐱᒍᓱᑉᐳᑦ ᐱᒻᒪᕆᐅᔪᒥᒃ ᐱᓕᕆᐊᖃᖃᑕᐅᔪᓐᓇᕐᓂᖓᓂᒃ ᐅᑭᐅᖅᑕᖅᑐᒥ ᐱᔭᐅᔭᕆᐊᓖᑦ ᐊᐅᓪᓚᖅᑎᒍᓐᓇᕐᓗᒋᑦ, ᓂᖀᑦ ᐊᐅᓪᓚᖅᑎᓪᓗᒋᑦ, ᐄᔭᒐᑦ, ᓄᓇᓕᓐᓂ ᓱᓇᒃᑯᑖᕆᔭᐅᓲᑦ, ᐃᒡᓗᒃᓴᑦ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐊᓯᖏᑦ ᐊᑐᖅᑕᐅᔭᕆᐊᖃᓪᓚᕆᓲᑦ ᓱᓇᒃᑯᑖᑦ ᐃᓄᐃᑦ ᓄᓇᖓᓂᒃ ᑭᒡᒐᖅᑐᖅᑐᒋᑦ ᐱᔨᑦᑎᓲᕗᑦ, ᐱᓕᕆᖃᑎᒋᓲᕗᑦ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᑕᒪᒃᑯᓄᖓ ᐊᑦᑐᖅᑕᐅᓂᖃᖃᑦᑕᓲᑦ.

Check us out at the 31st annual Nunavut Trade Show & Conference in Iqaluit, September 17-19! The theme is “Working Together – Shaping the Future of Nunavut,” and that’s just what Canadian North aims to do. That’s why we’re a platinum sponsor of the event and have been a proud participant for the past decade. This is Northern Canada’s largest annual trade event. It brings together all levels of government, Inuit organizations, Nunavut businesses, investors, entrepreneurs, and southern businesses for three days of education, collaboration, and networking. We’ll be there to talk about employment opportunities and connect with our valued customers and passengers. And don’t miss getting a taste of the on-board experience as you sample hot chocolate with whipped cream, cookies, and pretzels. Yum!     See you today and tomorrow! #canadiannorth #nunavut #tradeshowlife

Our team in Iqaluit hosted The Honorable Pierre Poilievre and Mr. Bob Zimmer Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies earlier this week. Our CEO Shelly De Caria and Vice President Captain Aaron Speer were on hand to guide the tour, and discuss the challenges that often arise as we provide essential services to the North. We welcome the opportunity to connect with other Members of Parliament and government officials, whether in Iqaluit or across our vast network, to find ways to fulfill our mission to make life better in the communities we serve.

September 10, 2024, is World Suicide Prevention Day and Embrace Life Day. In support of this year’s theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide”, we invite everyone to connect; start a conversation, send a ‘how are you’ ᖃᓄᐃᐱᑦ text message, or make a quick phone call to a friend, relative, neighbor or acquaintance. By initiating connections, no matter how small, we can break down barriers, raise awareness, and create a culture of support.
