🧡 Akimblog: Terence Dick Reviews Evan Penny: Marsyas and the Venetian Mirror at Blouin Division in Toronto 🧡 In this week’s Akimblog review, Terence Dick, “The enticing, troubling, perturbing, and, some might even say, poetic thing about generative AI is that even the experts don't know exactly how it works. ChatGPT and its cohort were released on the world with only an inkling of their impact and have run rampant in our collective imagination. As a writer, I have had a hard time seeing anything but the worst in this technology. As a critic, I should have predicted that the creative potential of these tools would best be revealed by artists rather than programmers or promoters. It took sculptor Evan Penny's recent exhibition at Blouin Division's Toronto gallery for that penny to drop.” Evan Penny: Marsyas and the Venetian Mirror was on display at Blouin Division September 14 - October 26, 2024. 📢 Call for Submissions: The Origin of Shadows @ Biennale internationale du lin de Portneuf, Deschambault-Grondines 📢 The Biennale internationale du lin de Portneuf (BILP) invites emerging artists aged 35 or under working with linen (fibre, thread, fabric) to submit works for an exhibition presented at the Presbytère Saint-Charles in Grondines as part of the BILP 2025. Submissions must be inspired by the theme, The Origin of Shadows. Artists are invited to explore fleeting moments during which shadows become the bearers of invented stories, mystery and poetry. The slightest thread of light appearing in the darkness allows us to distinguish some elements of the scenery. While light helps reveal reality, it can also create illusions by casting shadows that transform or distort it. Works must contain at least 50% linen (fibre, thread, fabric) and measure 40 X 40 cm in 2D or 50 X 50 X 50 cm in 3D. Exhibition Fee: $200 Deadline: April 4, 2025 https://lnkd.in/gnJgrgPe 📸 Image 1: Emerging artists exhibition, Biennale internationale du lin de Portneuf, 2021.
