O governo dos EUA anunciou um investimento de US$ 11 milhões para reforçar a segurança de softwares de código aberto, conforme um comunicado da Casa Branca. Esse investimento faz parte de um esforço maior para melhorar a segurança cibernética nacional, dada a crescente dependência de tecnologias de código aberto em infraestrutura crítica. A iniciativa será liderada pela Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF). A crescente adoção de softwares de código aberto em setores essenciais, como energia e finanças, torna a segurança dessas tecnologias uma prioridade para o governo. Esse financiamento ajudará a desenvolver novas ferramentas, práticas de segurança e auditorias para garantir que esses softwares sejam mais robustos contra ameaças cibernéticas. Essa medida faz parte de uma estratégia mais ampla da administração Biden para enfrentar as ameaças cibernéticas que têm se tornado cada vez mais sofisticadas e frequentes. Além de proteger a infraestrutura crítica, o investimento também visa aumentar a confiança do público na segurança de sistemas de código aberto, que são fundamentais para a inovação tecnológica e a economia digital moderna. ….. The US government announced an investment of US$11 million to strengthen the security of open source software, according to a statement from the White House. This investment is part of a larger effort to improve national cybersecurity, given the growing reliance on open source technologies in critical infrastructure. The initiative will be led by the Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF). The growing adoption of open source software in critical sectors such as energy and finance makes the security of these technologies a priority for the government. This funding will help develop new tools, security practices, and audits to ensure this software is more robust against cyber threats. This measure is part of a broader strategy by the Biden administration to confront cyber threats that have become increasingly sophisticated and frequent. Quem atua no mercado de cibersegurança com certeza está familiarizado com o tradicional relatório anual Cost of a Data Breach Report, da IBM. A companhia acaba de divulgar a edição 2024 e as notícias não são animadoras: o prejuízo médio de uma violação de dados ficou em US$ 4,88 milhões, um aumento de 10% em comparação com o ano passado e o maior crescimento desde o fim da pandemia da COVID-19. O motivo? Os “efeitos colaterais” desse tipo de incidente estão se tornando cada vez mais complexos e difíceis de lidar, resultando, naturalmente, em gastos maiores. Estima-se que algumas empresas demoram até 100 dias para se recuperar 100% de um vazamento de dados, e, às vezes, se vêem presas em um “loop” de incidentes identificados. Uma curiosidade positiva deste relatório, porém, é que o uso da inteligência artificial nos centros de operação de segurança (SOC) são capazes de gerar uma economia de até incríveis US$ 2,2 milhões no caso de uma exposição indevida, já que as automações agilizam a identificação e remediação desse tipo de incidente. ….. Those who work in the cybersecurity market are certainly familiar with IBM's traditional annual Cost of a Data Breach Report. The company has just released the 2024 edition and the news is not encouraging: the average loss from a data breach was US$4.88 million, an increase of 10% compared to last year and the biggest growth since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. The reason? The “side effects” of this type of incident are becoming increasingly complex and difficult to deal with, naturally resulting in greater expenses. It is estimated that some companies take up to 100 days to recover 100% from a data breach, and sometimes find themselves trapped in a “loop” of identified incidents.
