Greenhouse gases (GHGs) are one of the greatest #environmental #challenges we face today. #Deforestation, the #burningoffossilfuels and #unsustainableagriculturalpractices have raised these concentrations, putting our ecosystems at risk. In the "#Forest #Conservation in #IndigenousTerritories of #MonteVerde and #Lomerio" project, led by local communities, we are implementing conservation and ecological restoration actions. 🌱💪 These initiatives are key to mitigate these effects and #empowerthecommunities that inhabit these territories. 🔥🌳 Actions against the Forest Fire in Monte Verde TCO 🌳🔥 We have recorded a magnitude 2 forest fire in the #indigenous #communities of #SantaMonica and #ElCarmendeMonteVerde. In response to this emergency, #Cacique Casiano Paine, together with #communalmonitors and #forestfirefighters from the Monte Verde TCO, we carried out a series of technical actions to mitigate the impact and protect our natural resources. Counter-fire defense lines were implemented, using techniques to eliminate combustible material and clean specific areas to slow the spread of the fire. In addition, #dronemonitoring and #patrolling groups were established in the area to carry out continuous assessments of the fire's progress, allowing for a more agile and effective response. #Training for community members was another key aspect of this intervention. Workshops on #forestfireprevention and control techniques were facilitated, strengthening local capacity to manage emergencies. This strategy not only optimizes resources during the crisis, but also promotes resilience to future events. Our actions in the Monte Verde TCO are an example of how proper fire management and community training can contribute to ecosystem conservation and biodiversity protection in the region. 🔥 #ForestFire Alert in Monte Verde TCO 🌿 This week, the echo of forest fire alerts took us to the indigenous communities of Santa Rita and Santa Ana, in District 5 of the Monte Verde TCO. On the ground, we began the crucial task of #monitoringhotspots 🔍 a key action to protect our forests. Leading this mission are #caciques Casiano Paine and María Suárez, who, with their deep knowledge of the territory, act as true #guardiansoftheforest🌳. Their experience and leadership are essential in planning effective strategies to fight fire 🔥 and establish lines of defense that safeguard our ecosystems. With the collaboration of the #Centro de #Monitoreo of the #Central #Indígena #Paiconeka Monte Verde 🔔 and the support of the Municipality of San Javier, and the Governor's Office of Santa Cruz de la Sierra 🤝, we are forming a unified front in the face of this threat. 🌿📸 The conservation of our forests and biodiversity is strengthened through technology! Today we want to highlight the crucial role that #Patrolling, #Cameratraps and #Drones play in #ProtectingourForests. Thanks to these innovative tools, we have been able to capture amazing images of local wildlife, revealing the rich biodiversity that inhabits our territories. The "#Conservation #Project in the #IndigenousTerritories of #MonteVerde and #Lomerío" not only focuses on protecting our nature, but also supports 1,147 families in Lomerío and 4,600 families in Monte Verde. Economic activities, such as agriculture, honey production, handicrafts and ecotourism, are pillars that allow our communities to prosper while preserving their environment. Despite these efforts, our communities face significant challenges, such as limited access to water, basic health and education services, as well as deforestation problems. However, the cultural richness and traditional knowledge of our communities are valuable resources in the struggle for a sustainable future. 🌱 With the help of advanced technologies such as drones and camera traps, we are better equipped to #MonitorBiodiversity and manage our natural resources effectively. 🌍🔥 Climate change continues to pose a significant threat to the indigenous communities of the #MonteVerdeIndigenousTerritory. Unexpected frosts, prolonged drought and forest fires are challenges we face on a daily basis. Recently, we received a fire alert in the #TuruxNapez indigenous community in District 6 of the Monte Verde TCO. Our committed team of monitors, together with #CommunityFirefighters, responded immediately to this emergency, demonstrating their bravery and dedication. Despite these challenges, our community members persevere steadfastly. Neither climate change nor its adverse effects have led the community to consider abandoning their home. 💪🏽 Post-Fire Monitoring: We are currently organizing actions to carry out detailed #Monitoring in the affected area. Technically, this process includes: 1. Damage Assessment: #Visual and #DroneInspection to identify burned areas and assess the magnitude of the fire. 2. Soil Analysis: #SoilSampling to understand the impact on the fertility and health of the local ecosystem. 3. Flora and Fauna Monitoring: Assessment of biodiversity recovery and impact on habitats.
