Last Friday, Ariel Re came together for an incredible volunteer day with Waterstart Ltd. that was dedicated to cleaning up Burt Island, which is the hub of Waterstart Ltd.’s educational outreach. Waterstart Ltd. is a Bermuda charity promoting environmental awareness and personal growth through hands-on education at their ‘outdoor classroom’ on Burt Island. It was a rewarding, albeit hardworking, day cutting invasive species, clearing coastline, planting trees, surveying seagrass, and manicuring gardens to help maintain the beauty of the island and to keep it functional for their educational courses. Ariel Re is proud to have played a part in preserving this precious environment. In additional to the clean-up day, Ariel Re is excited to announce that we also donated $10,000 to Waterstart Ltd. so that they can continue to offer their services to the school children of Bermuda. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and yesterday, a group of Ariel Re employees proudly participated in the annual BF&M Group Breast Cancer Awareness Walk to show our support for breast cancer awareness and research. Together we walked, cheered and united to make a difference for those affected by this disease. As part of our commitment, we are thrilled to announce that Ariel Re’s charity committee also donated $2,500 towards the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre to help towards their goal of acquiring a second cutting-edge 3D mammography machine, ensuring the Centre can continue to provide top-tier breast cancer screening and diagnosis with $0 out-of-pocket costs for all women in Bermuda. Yesterday was International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and at Ariel Re, we recognize the importance of reducing risks and building resilience to protect communities worldwide.    To celebrate this day, we spotlight Valentina Putrino, Catastrophe Risk Analyst at Ariel Re, who has been a driving force for disaster preparedness and risk reduction efforts. She has done this by serving as chair of the Earthquake Engineering Field Investigation Team (EEFIT), which is a non-profit organisation committed to taking action in the aftermath of devastating natural disasters. She has worked towards many field deployments, which are aimed at investigating the damage post event and also building resilience and working towards disaster preparedness and community support.   Beyond immediate relief efforts, she works with the WFEO - World Federation of Engineering Organizations, which focuses on achieving Sustainable Development Goal 11, "making cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable" to build more resilient futures.
