ToGather Homes is a 🇧🇪 Belgian start-up committed to facing two pressing challenges: the lack of affordable housing and the climate crisis. Responding to the urgent need for sustainable, accessible homes in Europe, ToGatherHomes creates communities where people can live comfortably and affordably while reducing their environmental impact. The goal of ToGatherHomes is not just about building homes; it's about building communities. They design low-rise, high-density housing, offering 3 to 5-story rowhouse apartments and 4 to 8-story apartment buildings. 🏡 These homes are thoughtfully envisioned with private gardens, terraces, and shared green spaces, cultivating a sense of community and connection. ToGatherHomes works closely with private investors and public agencies, making a network of professionals who can scale up their vision. They are also developing a digital platform to streamline their home-building process, offering a library of prefabricated, 🪵 timber-based designs and encouraging collaboration among partners. Supported by EIT Manufacturing and the Catalyse NEB acceleration programme, ToGatherHomes is launching a fundraising round and seeking the first construction partner. It is more than just a housing project; it's a mission to create a sustainable, affordable future for all. #NewEuropeanBauhaus #UrbanDevelopment #SocialInnovation

"The New European Bauhaus serves as a platform where architecture and fashion converge, united not only by art but also by innovation."   📸 From the NEB Festival to Glamour Poland: Agnieszka Oleksyn - Wajda, Director at the Institute of Sustainable Development and Environment at Lazarski University, recently spoke with Katarzyna Dąbrowska, editor-in-chief of Glamour Poland, about how the EU Green Deal contributes to a more sustainable fashion industry - from promoting alternative 🧵textile production and combating #greenwashing to encouraging consumers to rethink their purchasing decisions.   Reflecting on the role of the 🇪🇺 New European Bauhaus in promoting sustainable fashion, Agnieszka shares her experience at our recent NEB Festival in Brussels: designing debates, workshops, exhibitions, and even a fashion show - all focused on moving towards a more 🌱sustainable, innovative and inclusive fashion industry. In Agnieszka's view, the New European Bauhaus brings together all the environmental and climate ambitions of the #EUGreenDeal, uniting creators, policymakers, and visionaries to build a better future. #NewEuropeanBauhaus #SustainableFashion #Innovation

Cooling Paris: Roofscapes' pilot project slashes rooftop temperatures Supported by the City of Paris, Roofscapes has completed its first pilot project for timber and vegetated roof platforms. 🌡️ Initial measurements show temperature differences of up to 17°C inside the roof and 32°C on the surface, compared to traditional zinc rooftops. As Paris faces increasing heat waves intensified by the urban heat island effect, practical cooling solutions are critical. Zinc rooftops, which can reach up to 🥵 80°C in direct sunlight, offer an untapped opportunity. Supported by the New European Bauhaus, Roofscapes has designed adaptable wooden platforms that provide much-needed shade and vegetation while making rooftops accessible to residents and visitors. Since spring 2024, Roofscapes has installed the 100 m² pilot platform on the roof of the Académie du Climat - Ville de Paris. This structure, made from French pine and larch by MEHA - Construction Bois, features a variety of local and Mediterranean plants selected by Topager, using soil sourced from Paris excavation sites. The pilot project will continue to monitor the platform's impact on surface and indoor temperatures, water retention, and 🐝 biodiversity. This initiative represents a promising solution for adapting urban landscapes to climate change and enhancing the quality of communities in dense urban environments. Stay tuned for more exciting updates! #SustainableLiving #ClimateAdaptation #NewEuropeanBauhaus 📷 ©️ 1 Lionel Leduc, 2-4 Olivier Faber, 2024. Content licensed to the European Union.

🌞 A circular revolution in solar energy 🇳🇱 Dutch start-up Biosphere Solar is taking renewable energy to the next level by incorporating circular manufacturing principles into their sustainable photovoltaics. Their innovative product design allows photovoltaic panels to be easily disassembled and reassembled, making them repairable, extending their lifespan, and enabling the efficient extraction and ♻️ recycling of valuable raw materials. Recovering these precious materials from photovoltaics is a game changer, reducing the need for virgin raw materials and lowering the energy required to produce new panels. This also cuts the energy payback time in half. Biosphere Solar is part of 🇪🇺 NEB Catalyse 2024, a European innovation cohort led by the New European Bauhaus and EIT to support 28 high-potential European start-ups in achieving their entrepreneurial goals in line with NEB values and principles. Adding by Removing: Unveiling the Timeless Beauty of Rīgas Cirks A historic marvel from 1888, Rīgas Cirks is the only permanent circus building in the Baltic states and a true national treasure for 🇱🇻 Latvia. Originally designed for horse performances, this iconic structure features a dome supported by sixteen railway track columns and a brick-built arena. In 2018, an architectural competition sparked a new chapter for this historic building. The architecture office NRJA (No Rules Just Architecture) embraced an innovative “adding by removing” approach, carefully revealing hidden layers of the building’s past while transforming it into a multifunctional cultural centre. By preserving and reusing original materials, NRJA not only boosted the building’s energy efficiency but also championed sustainability and circular design. 🪵 The globally unique solid wood dome and the authentically conserved arena stand as a testament to this approach, aligning with the principles of the New European Bauhaus. The Rīgas Cirks project was a high-profile contender for the 2024 NEB Prizes in the category of shaping a circular industrial ecosystem. The restoration works by NRJA certainly unveil the hidden dimension of time, allowing the building to tell its own story and forge a deep connection with both visitors and residents of Riga. #NewEuropeanBauhaus #ArchitecturalHeritage #HistoricRestoration 📷 © 1, 3, 4 Vladimirs Svetlovs, 2 Aleksandrs Kendenkovs, 2024.
