📜 31 years ago today, the Treaty on European Union came into force. 🔎 The term 'safe country of origin' (SCO) has been used to refer to countries whose citizens should not, in theory, be granted international protection, since those countries are widely regarded as safe. The concept can refer to the automatic exclusion from refugee status of nationals of SCOs, or it can raise a presumption of safety. With the pact on #migration and #asylum adopted, the common EU list of safe countries of origin must be transposed by all Member States. ⌛ Did you know the current European Commission's mandate ends today? Until the next Commission takes office, the current one will continue working as a prolonged 'caretaker'. 📍 Today, the European Commission adopted its annual Enlargement Package. Our briefing takes a closer look at the EU-Western Balkans relations. The EU has been providing the Western Balkan partners with political, financial and technical support and is today the primary political and economic partner and biggest investor in the region. 📈 What are the latest economic trends between the US and EU?
