The Science Based Targets initiative has finally decided that carbon offsetting shouldn’t be accounted for as scope 3 reductions… at least for now. In April, the SBTi proposed including carbon offsetting as a valuable way to reduce Scope 3 emissions. Of course, this sparked controversy. After months of debate, the SBTi has recognised the ineffectiveness of carbon credits in meeting climate goals, restoring the trust of experts in this initiative. Right now, the SBTi allows companies to use carbon credits only for the “last mile,” meaning emissions that cannot be avoided or that represent 10% of total carbon emissions (based on the reference year). The remaining 90% must be reduced directly. 🚨 But stay alert in 2025: A new Corporate Net-Zero referential should be published by 2025. Do you want to dive deeper into this topic and discuss it with other experts? We’re hosting an online panel discussion on carbon offsetting, carbon contributions and its ethics. Is your sustainability strategy credible? Many companies discuss sustainability, but how many back it up with real action? 🔎 When Multipharma embarked on its sustainability journey, it knew credibility was key to involving all stakeholders in it. In our recent webinar, Quentin Van Buylaere shared the keys to its success, emphasising that taking concrete, visible actions is essential to gaining trust and proving commitment. To do so, Multipharma chose to focus on visible actions very early on in its sustainability strategy, such as installing solar panels, to show that it was up to taking concrete steps to lower its impact. Most companies are talking about sustainability, but how many are credible? In today's business landscape, sustainability is no longer optional. We must ensure that sustainability strategies are credible and conducting a carbon report is a solid starting point. Here's why: 📊 A carbon report provides a data-driven foundation. 🔎 It ensures your actions are rooted in concrete evidence. 🎯 It helps prioritise impactful initiatives. Vpharma, a cooperative with 60 pharmacies across Belgium, integrated a carbon report into its sustainability strategy using Tapio's carbon management software as a first step to gaining credibility and transparency. During our last webinar, Grégory Van Roy, director at Gmedi-Vpharma, highlighted the multifaceted motivations behind doing a carbon report: "Legislation such as the CSRD was the spark that spurred us into action, but the reasons for conducting carbon reports are multiple—from attracting and retaining talent to taking responsibility for our company's social and environmental impact on the communities where we operate." Want to learn more about building credibility in your sustainability strategy? Read our latest article on the 3 keys to gain credibility. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ee4-R5qV
