Regenerative agriculture for food system resilience & climate action

About us

Soil Capital is a mission-driven company with long expertise in regenerative agriculture and spearheading the low-carbon transition of farms. It was founded on the core belief that farmers should be rewarded and fairly compensated for their key role in tackling the ecological crisis. Operating internationally, Soil Capital’s ambition is to accompany farmers in the transition of 1 million hectares to more profitable and regenerative agriculture by 2025. In 2019, Soil Capital launched Europe’s first certified carbon payment programme to accelerate the adoption of regenerative practices. It now counts over 1,600 farmers in its ranks, spread across France, Belgium and the UK. We value farmers’ reduced carbon emissions and/or increased soil carbon storage on the carbon voluntary markets through high-integrity certification. Our carbon certification programme unlocks regenerative and resilient food supply chains, by connecting farmers with food & fiber companies committed to rebalancing our agriculture system. We also support companies that want to contribute to support regenerative farming as part of their global net zero initiatives.

🌱 We’re not just carbon certificates—Soil Capital's impact goes further! This week, after Chuck de Liedekerke and Sandrine, one of the pioneer farmers in our Soil Capital program, shared their insights on stage at the World Living Soils Forum, one thing is clear: Farming regeneratively will become the norm! That’s where we’re focusing all our energy—on fundamentally transforming how #agriculture is valued and supported. It’s time to start focusing on how to reduce emissions by empowering farmers like Sandrine to lead the way. By building a fair system where farmers are rewarded for regenerating their soils, we’re addressing a key challenge in #agriculture—rotation. Farmers grow a mix of crops, but buyers often care about just one. At Soil Capital, we’ve built a platform that changes the game. Now, when ag food companies partner with Soil Capital for their crop of choice, they’re also supporting the entire rotation - because sustainable farming can’t happen without supporting the whole system. 💬 Take Sandrine’s story. She and her husband, both fourth-generation farmers, faced a life-changing flood in 2003. Instead of giving up, they reinvented their farm, regenerating the soil, bringing new life to their land. Today, their farm is a thriving ecosystem. “Soil Capital didn’t just give us a new revenue stream; they recognised many years of work. Finally, our risk was rewarded and valued,” she shared. 🌱 [Monday #Agronomic News] After experiencing the wettest September in 30 years, this week's weather forecasts predict continued #rain across France, which will affect ongoing harvesting and sowing operations. Here’s a quick overview of the key challenges due to these extreme weather: 1️⃣ Harvest Delays: Waterlogged fields are making it difficult to #harvest sunflowers, corn, potatoes, and sugar beets, causing delays and increased costs for farmers. 2️⃣ #Soil Conditions: Excessive rain is complicating operations for potato and sugar beet crops, with soil compaction issues that could affect long-term #soilhealth. These events remind us that #farmers today are navigating in an uncertain climatic and economic context, which oblige us to move towards more robust and adaptable #farmingsystems. Applying the principles of #regenerativeagriculture can help better manage excess to water, extend the window for sowing operations and soil resistance to compaction and other physical alterations.  #AgroNews #SustainableFarming #SoilHealth #ClimateResilience #climatechange Maxime Alaurent

Supporting farmers and companies in the regenerative agriculture transition! 🌾🌎

As things ramp up for the start of our 5th intake of farmers here Soil Capital we were exhibiting at the inaugural Norfolk Landscapes Conference & Exhibition on Wednesday. I had the pleasure of delivering a seminar on ‘Working with nature to generate additional farm revenue’, which provoked many interesting conversations throughout the day. My key takeaways.... 🌱 The UK farming sector is undoubtedly in a phase of transition, different farms are at differing stages in this but there is a uniform direction of travel. Exciting, but not without its challenges. 👨🌾 This farming transition is not always plain sailing. Every farm is different and every farmers context is unique. There are challenges along the way and we shouldn’t neglect this point. There is a need for greater collaboration, knowledge sharing and funding to make this work. 💷 There are options out there to help farmers de-risk this transition. What has emerged is a plethora of public and private financing options to reward positive change. Farmers and landowners should be looking into all of these options, and assessing what fits their business. Kudos again to Norfolk FWAG and Jordan Sharman for arranging. Roll on next year!

[Field Day!] 🌱 Engaging with European Members of Parliament on #RegenerativeAgriculture At Soil Capital | B Corp™, we believe strongly in connecting food and beverage companies with farmers to incentivize improvements in ecosystem services. We're also convinced that smart policy can play a powerful role in supporting the transitions already underway. For all these reasons, we were thrilled to host representatives from the new European Parliament, along with colleagues from the Commission and Member States, on a field visit this week. Here are some key themes there were discussed yesterday: ▶️Economic #resilience & #foodsecurity: Regenerative agriculture strengthens farm economic resilience and enhances food security. ▶️Incentivizing blended finance: To accelerate necessary changes, we must combine public and private finance. ▶️Outcome-based rewards: #Farmers should be rewarded based on the impact they achieve. ▶️A fair share for farmers: Farmers must receive the lion's share of any financial support. ▶️Promoting early adopters: Highlighting and creating solutions for early adopters will inspire broader change. A special thank you to our partners FoodDrinkEurope for organizing this field day with the new European Parliament, the Commission, and Member States. We appreciate your time and engagement as we explore ways to champion regenerative agriculture across Europe. #Sustainability #RegenAg #SoilCapital #EUparliament Photos from Louis-Philippe Goethals

[#Podcast!] 🎙️Explore the game-changing potential of agroforestry with global expert Patrick Worms in our latest episode of the Deep Seed Podcast ! 🌱Discover how integrating trees into farming systems can revive degraded lands, improve #SoilHealth, and boost climate resilience. “The most important species in the landscape is always homosapiens. It ‘s always people, so if you want to go into a landscape and help it thrive because you want more food [...] because you want less erosion, you’ve got to deal with people. And that is what makes this so transformative.” #RegenAg #Sustainability #DeepSeedPodcast 🔗 Listen here: https://hubs.la/Q02Rt9Z70

Head of Agronomy // Supporting farmers who regenerate the soils

On Sunday, cyclists from the Soil Capital Cycling Team and the Bonneville Cycling Federation - BCF enjoyed a fantastic ride near our new offices in Louvain-la-Neuve. 🚴♂️ The riders of the day covered 55 kilometers, including some cobbled sections, in very cold weather. After the ride, we took the opportunity to share more about our activities and how we support farmers in their transition towards sustainable farming practices. It was a great time, with beers from the Brasserie de l’Orne (which uses low-carbon barley from our program through the CultivAé - Coopérative agroécologique) and a BBQ featuring meat from the Ferme des Noyers in Corroy-le-Grand (which also produces barley for Cultivae). The good moments we shared were also placed under the sign of Profitivisme (a concept created by Gilles, a rider of the Bonneville Cycling Federation, who sadly passed away last week after three years fighting cancer). Learn more ▶️ https://hubs.la/Q02RwwpG0 ◀️ Thanks again Soil Capital for supporting my passion ! #RideOn

🌱 Accelerating regenerative agriculture and net zero carbon food systems at Soil Capital

This week was all about celebrating our valued client, Royal Canin. We kicked things off with an educational field day at our HQ, where we visited the Genesis Regenerative plot in Belgium. It was inspiring to see regenerative farming in action, demonstrating practices like agroforestry and cover cropping. Next, we headed to the Royal Canin Campus in Aimargues for the Paws for the Planet event, where Chuck shared insights into our partnership with Royal Canin. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with farmers—highlighting that true soil stewardship comes not from working against farmers, but by working alongside them and supporting them in their transition. This immersive experience not only deepened our long-standing partnership but also allowed us to witness firsthand the meaningful impact Royal Canin is making—for both our pets and the planet. I was fortunate to build connections with partners like AllChiefs & SWEEP. It was a week rich with thought-provoking conversations and exciting collaborations! #scope3 #regenag #farmerfirst #sustainablefarming Cc Luc Beerens france garnier Marion Sarteel Nicolas Verschuere Renaud BETTIN Bonne Goedhart
