🎓 “It’s a really good feeling for young scholars to have this kind of validation. It’s a milestone, a moment of celebration along the way of a PhD, that validates your work and shows you that you are on the right path.“ In 2023, OpenForum Europe and the OpenForum Academy established the Basil Cousins' Award, honouring our late co-founder. This awards aims to showcase promising academics conducting rigorous research on open technologies. As we approach the next edition of the award, to be presented at the OpenForum Academy Symposium at Harvard on 13 November 2024, we caught up with Jérémie Haese, the first award laureate in 2023. 🔗Learn more about the Awards and what it means for young scholars here: https://lnkd.in/d_KNPFcq 📆Register for the OpenForum Academy Symposium at Harvard here: https://lnkd.in/dCnR62cK

Ciarán O'Riordan recently worked on three webinars on major new software legislation in the EU. They're for a global audience and don't assume any detailed knowledge of EU legislation or procedures. Recordings are available here: https://lnkd.in/euRfRGEa They cover many legislative topics but each one primarily focusses on a single regulation: 1. Cyber Resilience Act 2. AI Act 3. Product Liability Directive We hope these will be of interest to people looking for discussion of: * General content (obligations) and objectives of the new law * Procedural status, and what’s next * How regulation affects FOSS differently (our business models, our collaborative development) * The FOSS-specific clauses that are in each of these legal texts * Compliance for people outside the EU * Recommendations for other countries considering similar legislation * How the FOSS ecosystem participates in legislative procedures Many thanks to Shane Coughlan and OpenChain for their collaboration!
