💡TIP OF THE WEEK With the CNS Drone SkyRF® an instrumented landing system (ILS) for example, can be measured in less than 20 minutes. The drone flies a preprogrammed trajectory to measure glide path and localizer and the results are streamed live to the ground station. Such a measurement can easily be planned at night, when the airport is not operational. That's a real game changer compared to traditional test flights, which require a team of test pilots to come in and request operational time slots to conduct their flights. Twenty to thirty years is a normal lifespan for a PSR. In the world of electronics, however, this period is an eternity. Consequently, many PSRs suffer from obsolescence and substandard performance. They are no longer adapted to the changing environment with higher air traffic density and complex interferences. Upgrading a PSR, rather than replacing it, offers several benefits. It is generally less expensive than a full replacement, minimizing capital expenditure and making use of existing infrastructure. Upgrades can often be implemented incrementally, allowing for continuous operation of the radar system and minimizing disruptions to air traffic management. OEMs are aware of these challenges and often offer service lifetime extension programs or SLEPs. ASR-M modules are the basic building blocks for SLEPs. They were independently developed by Intersoft Electronics and are available for integration in any ASR system. 👉 Want to learn more about how modular radar upgrades can extend the life of your system? It was an immense honour and privilege for both myself and the team of Intersoft Services Iberia, Lda. to host and organize, in close collaboration with Intersoft Electronics the first European RASS User Work Group, which took place this week in the beautiful city of Lisbon. This event brought together esteemed ANSP's, including NATS, NAV PORTUGAL, skeyes, HungaroControl - Hungarian Air Navigation Services, amongst others along side with leading radar manufacturers such as Indra, Thales and Leonardo. The gathering provided a remarkable platform for European radar specialists to convene, share experiences and exchange knowledge, with a special emphasis on the proven RASS tools developed and manufacturered by Intersoft Electronics. It was also an opportunity to show our drone based CNS testing platform, the SkyRF and the advantages of using this device to perform Radar measurements. On behalf of Intersoft Electronics, I would like to extend my gratitude to all the participants. Your presence and engagement significantly enriched the event and fostered valuable discussions. #IntersoftElectronics #RASS, #radar #survaillance #CNS #SkyRF

💡TIP OF THE WEEK The Next Generation System Platform (NGSP®) is the answer to obsoleteness in primary radar systems. Radars have a typical lifetime of 20 and more years. We all know that 20 year old electronics can be labelled prehistoric and obsoleteness is usually a real challenge in keeping legacy systems operational. The transmitter, power electronics and antenna subsystems of legacy systems are less prone to obsolescence. The processor and receiver chain however, face this problem earlier. The NGSP® replaces those subsystems with modern, state-of-the-art hardware and software modules. While obsolescence often triggers a system upgrade, the improved performance that comes with an NGSP® is a very nice to have. Modular design is essential to move to sustainable ASR systems. ✈️Moreover, it is required to keep systems adapted to the changing airspace environment and keep them state-of-the-art. 📡 ASR-M® modules can be used to upgrade a legacy system and they can be integrated into brand new systems. For radar manufacturers (and for their customers, the ANSPs), it's important to keep the challenges in mind that their systems will face during their entire lifetime, i.e. the environment in which they operate in will change and technologies will advance. 📊 With this in mind, manufacturers can extend the service life time of their systems. A modular system is much easier to upgrade than a monobloc system. The customer profits because the performance of his ASR will always remain as good as technologically possible. The modular design also eases maintenance. 🛠️ There's less operational impact because it's not so often needed to shut down the complete system. Moreover, as modular ASR remains state-of-the-art, there will be less unforeseen defects or break-downs. 🎯 Read more about revolutionizing ASR design in our article below. 📖👇 #IntersoftElectronics #ASRM #CNS #ATM Jan van Gent Ioannis Kassotakis Trevor Froggatt Yagmur Guclu
