🚨 #NEWS - Offshore wind power needs Singapore’s expertise as Asia’s reliance on fossil fuels rises. GWEC's Head of Asia, Liming Qiao wrote this article in the Singapore Business Review, emphasizing Singapore's crucial role in accelerating #OFSW development as Southeast Asia risks deepening its reliance on fossil fuels to meet growing energy demand. #Singaporean companies, backed by initiatives from Enterprise Singapore and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), are well-positioned to lead this shift, the region needs low-cost financing to harness offshore wind in the region and leveraging expertise in finance, maritime infrastructure, and renewable energy innovation will ensure success. With projected investments in APAC offshore wind power to exceed $600 billion by 2050, #Singapore could capture significant economic and job opportunities. This is why Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) is hosting the APAC Wind Energy Summit and the APAC Clean Energy Finance Summit in South Korea this month. To bring together experience and expertise from across the world to propel wind energy development in the region. ➡️ It's the last day to grab the early bird discount, get your ticket now: https://lnkd.in/eawxr7re ➡️ Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/etcgVc6b #Finance #Maritime #APAC #Fossilfuels #GreenFinance

Liming Qiao, GWEC’s Chief of Strategy - Asia and the #GWECAsia Policy team presented a report to the Deputy Minister Long from the Viet Nam Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) at his office in Hà Nội 📖✨ The report outlines the crucial next steps for Vietnam to take to scale investment and achieve its offshore wind targets 🇻🇳🎯 "We believe that a robust competitive procurement process for #offshorewind projects in Vietnam will be instrumental in achieving the country's long-term decarbonization and energy security goals,” shared Mark Hutchinson, Director and Chair of the Southeast Asia Task Force at GWEC. Mark adds: “Defining a long-term competitive investor selection model for offshore wind projects in Vietnam would provide greater certainty to all stakeholders, allow infrastructure development, and achieve cost reductions in the learning curve." According to the GWEC report, Vietnam can procure #renewableenergy more cost-effectively if it adopts GWEC's proposed two-stage competitive model for offshore wind development in the market: 🟢 Stage 1: The award of exclusive survey rights (for at least 10 years) 🟢 Stage 2: The award of a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and a price-only competitive selection. The proposed investor selection model also includes a balanced risk allocation among the Vietnamese Government, electricity ratepayers and investors. If implemented, this well-structured, competitive investor selection regime would attract substantial investor interest, and accelerate the development of offshore wind projects in Vietnam 🚀 Read more about it here: 📰 https://lnkd.in/eKbNm5Ga Download the reports here: 🔗https://lnkd.in/e7_vwjhP Mark Hutchinson | Bui Vinh Thang | Trang Van Nguyen | Riccardo Felici | Denzel Eades Photo Credit: Tap Chi Cong Thuong Industry and Trade Magazine #Time4Action #ActioninAPAC

🔑 Transparent Engagement: The Key to Securing The Social License for Wind Energy in Latin America! 🌍 To ensure the success of doubling our wind energy capacity by 2030, it is critical to engage local populations in a transparent, inclusive, and culturally sensitive manner. Here are key actions from our report for policymakers: 1️⃣ Streamline Permitting Processes Ensure that renewable energy projects can efficiently secure licenses and permits through accurate, objective, and simplified procedures. 2️⃣ Prioritize Public Interest & Equitable Benefit-Sharing It’s essential that the socioeconomic benefits of projects are distributed fairly among all affected communities. This fosters trust and delivers tangible benefits. 3️⃣ Build and Maintain Trust Early, active, and continuous engagement with local communities, along with transparent communication and fair compensation, is vital for the long-term success of wind energy projects. By focusing on these strategies, Latin American governments can create an enabling environment that accelerates wind energy deployment, promotes shared prosperity, and ensures that local communities are central to the region’s energy transition. 📥 Want to learn more?
