With a factory visit 🙌 EFFPA member Trotec NV welcomed a delegation from the European Commission’s DG SANTE Unit of Food Hygiene, Feed Hygiene and Fraud to show and explain Trotec’s 55-year history of addressing food loss and waste reduction at a food production/retail level as well as circular feed production for more sustainable livestock 🐄 🐖 🐔 Warm thanks to all the 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 #𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆! ♻️

👉 FEFAC was pleased to engage in a fruitful discussion with Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness | Agriculture, Alimentation et Agroentreprise on the shared challenges and opportunities linked to the #EUDR implementation. We highlighted our key recommendations and offered insights into the potential economic impact that the EUDR could have on the EU feed chain and livestock industries. The EU Guidelines for Green Feed Labelling should focus on providing farmers with the necessary information, while also supporting a legislative framework that 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆. He outlined key priorities for a competitive and farmer-friendly EU Agricultural Policy. He emphasized the importance of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in enhancing the #food supply chain, providing essential income support, and fostering economic viability in agriculture. His focus also included support for young farmers, increased investments, and improved access to finance. 🌱

We must reduce reliance on external markets by fostering balanced trade agreements and introducing targeted measures to handle market volatility ❗ Bravo to CEMA for pulling together a fruitful event! On Sunday 29 September, on the occasion of the #FWLday, we highlighted that when food is lost or wasted, all the resources that were used to produce this food - including water, land, energy, labour and capital - go to waste! The #former #foodstuff processor industry is at the heart of the food chain #circular economy, however, understanding all of its operations might be challenging. For example, how can we feed #livestock animals 🐄🐓 with broken candies or cracked cookies🍪🍭 ? For this reason, EFFPA's video demonstrates how the sector helps prevent food #waste while ensuring that donation options are prioritised first. This process repurposes food #losses from manufacturers and retailers as #feed for animals, contributing to a more #sustainable food system. ✨ 𝗙𝗘𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗟𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦 - 𝗙𝗘𝗙𝗔𝗖 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 ✨ #DYK 🍊🍋 After billions of liters of juice from citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and grapefruits are consumed worldwide, a solid residue known as citrus pulp remains. This by-product, rich in energy and fiber, serves as a valuable feed co-product, particularly for ruminants like dairy cattle. 🐄 Ruminants benefit from citrus pulp's digestible fiber, which promotes healthy rumination and saliva production, helping to balance the pH in their stomachs. Plus, it enhances milk quality, especially milk fat! 🥛 Agricultural systems can reduce waste by repurposing the solid by-product left behind after citrus juice extraction. Citrus peels and seeds are not thrown away; instead, they are converted into useful #feed, which maintains resources in the food chain, and lessens dependency on other feed crops, whose growth needs land, water, and energy. 🌍 A great example of keeping agricultural products in the food chain! 🌱
