A delegation from the European Disability Forum will attend the flagship climate change conference, COP29, to raise the alarm: disability inclusion in the COP is trailing behind. Worryingly, the UNFCC (the entity responsible for the COP) is blocking the creation of a disability constituency, an informal group that would grant disability advocates more power and access. This is unacceptable, as not only persons with disabilities are disproportionately affected by climate change, but they risk being excluded if solutions are not disability-inclusive. The #ArtificialIntelligence Act aims to regulate AI systems. But how does it fare regarding #DisabilityRights? How can we use it to guarantee that persons with disabilities are not excluded? Or that #accessibility is taken into account? Our guide "A disability-inclusive Artificial Intelligence Act: A guide to monitor implementation in your country" helps advocates and organisations in pressuring national governments to create good laws to implement the Act. Among the advice: - Create alliances with other human rights organisations and digital rights organisations. - Use the AI Act "right to explanation". - Advocate for accessibility and bias testing. G7 launches Solfagnano Charter on disability and inclusion! We were present at the G7 ministerial meeting on #disability and #inclusion, where our Vice-President Pat Clarke moderated a panel on "Universal Accessibility and the prevention and management of emergencies". We welcome the G7 Presidency initiative of consulting us and the wider disability movement while drafting the Charter. We believe it's a good initiative however, the Charter should have presented more concrete actions. In addition, as G7 members represent the world’s largest advanced economies, they must lead by example in ensuring that specific policies are created, and funding is allocated to the Charter’s commitments. This must include funding for representative organisations of persons with disabilities so they can be properly involved in all actions. We now hope that Canada, as the next Presidency of G7, and South Africa, as the Presidency of the G20, develop on this initiative and deliver strong commitments! The European Parliament establishes informal groups of (cross-party, cross-country) Members that fight for a common cause. They are called Intergroups. The #Disability Intergroup has been essential to ensure #DisabilityRights advance for the last 40 years. Every mandate, Intergroups need to be re-established - and just a few are allowed. We need your help! Tell your MEPs to sign and send us the support form: https://lnkd.in/ggpzbtXF Why? Watch past Members share the achievements of the Intergroup!
