[#ProjectNews] It's never too early to embark on a career in #Electrochemistry. Our intern, Paul Marchand, has significantly contributed to TECNALIA Research & Innovation's technical work on the #PEACOC project, demonstrating the young generation's dedication and talent for creating a #SustainableFuture. Paul recently concluded his training focused on the "Recovery of Critical and #PreciousMetals from #EndOfLife Products," exceeding his initial assignments. Over just four months, his efforts were primarily directed towards: ➡️Extracting #Silver and #Copper from #PV scrap using Deep Eutectic Solvents combined with #Electrochemical processes. ➡️Designing new electrochemical reactor configurations that are versatile and 3D printable. 👏Project coordinator, Elisabet Andres Garcia, appreciated Paul's contributions to the TECNALIA Waste Valorisation team: "During his 4-month internship, Paul Marchand joined the Waste Valorisation team at Tecnalia to engage in the technical work developed under the #PEACOC project. His work has exceeded the expectations for such a young professional. It has been a great pleasure working with him, and we look forward to seeing his future achievements!"
PEACOC
Chemical Manufacturing
First-of-its-kind low-cost and eco friendly solutions for recovery of gold, silver & platinum group metals from waste.
About us
PEACOC is a project funded by the European Union’s H2020 programme with a budget of €11.2 million. Its key objective is to recover Platinum Group Metals, Gold and Silver, from spent autocatalysts, waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and end-of-life (EoL) photovoltaic panels. Based on previously developed technologies in another H2020 research and innovation project #PLATIRUS, PEACOC will scale up to pre-commercial scale several technologies and demonstrate the recovery of those precious metals on kg level per week with economically and environmentally viable technologies that have also compact size and low CAPEX and OPEX. The project is coordinated by TECNALIA, an European leading research and technological development centre. The consortium has 18 other partners covering the whole value chains from waste to new products. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 958302.

👏Congratulations Omar Martinez Mora on completing your PhD! And also for managing to capture 4 years of #research in just 2 minutes. Not an easy challenge. Your contribution to the development of the #GDEx process (gas-diffusion electrocrystallisation) for #sustainable #recycling of #PGMs from catalytic converters has undoubtedly brought the #PEACOC project further, bringing us closer to achieving our ambitious goals. Additional to this very informative video, your contribution in #PEACOC can also be seen through various #scientificpublications, all to be explored on our results webpage 🔗https://lnkd.in/ezpb8gcy
Did you know that 1 in 4 products that surround you contains precious metals? Think for instance about your phone 📱, laptop 💻, or car 🚗 "Since these metals are rare and expensive, we urgently need better ways to recycle them", says Omar Martinez Mora (VITO - KU Leuven). But that is a challenging task as these metals are often mixed with over 40 elements 🥵 Omar Martinez's PhD led to a breakthrough solution: he developed a new, sustainable method, called GDEx, which allows for the selective recovery of these precious metals, with nearly 100% efficiency 👏 More info 👉 https://lnkd.in/eJqK4Bqf
