Beer of the Month: Averbode Extra from Brouwerij Huyghe 🍺 Averbode Extra is the second beer from Averbode, a well-known Belgian abbey. The light-bodied beer that marries a hint of sweetness from the malt with a delicate hop aroma is brewed by Brouwerij Huyghe. Averbode Extra has a lower ABV than the classical Averbode beer so you can enjoy an extra beer. This Belgian pale ale is made with Belgomalt Pure Local Pilsen Malt, giving it a beautiful golden colour and a smooth body. A snapshot 📸 out of the combine harvester of one of our Pure Local farmers! After a short break due to wet weather conditions last week, the Belgian Pure Local farmers are now again on the fields to continue the barley harvest. 🚜 Since they only get short gaps between dry days ans rainy weather coming up they often work the night through to get the barley of the field and into the barn before the thunderstoms arrive. Up till now the quality of the barley looks good! 🌾 A few more sunny days and all of the Pure Local barley should be safe and dry in the barns! Thank you sun ☀

Boortmalt partners with the historic Antwerp Brewers' House 🍻 Our parent company Boortmalt will oversee the future operations of the historic Antwerp Brewers' House (The Brouwershuis). The Brouwershuis is located in the north of Antwerp, between Adriaan Brouwerstraat and Brouwersvliet. Founded in the 16th century by entrepreneur and town planner Gilbert Van Schoonbeke as a water distribution center for surrounding breweries, the Brouwershuis also later became the seat of the town's brewers' guild. In 1933, the Brouwershuis was first opened as a museum. Since 1990, it has been closed to the public pending necessary restoration. After its renovations, Belgomalt will take a leading role in making this building the Antwerp meeting and educational hub on everything about brewing and malting. We’ve very excited to be part of this journey.

Boortmalt has partnered with Soil Capital to support agriculture decarbonisation 🤝 Our parent company, Boortmalt is working with Soil Capital to assess CO2 numbers of our Pure Local barley crops. Soil Capital | B Corp™ is the first certified carbon farming program rewarding regenerative agriculture. Their official calculations demonstrate that the Pure Local program works and captures more carbon than it emits. Even better news: by 2030, Boortmalt will reduce the emissions of its allocated barley supply across the globe by 30%, bringing it into line with the SBTi FLAG 1.5°C target.

Scenes from this year’s Pure Local BBQ 📸 Our annual Pure Local BBQ brings Pure Local #farmers, #brewers and #maltsters together to celebrate the approaching harvest with the key people within the Pure Local community. This year, the event took place at the magnificent old square farm of one of our Pure Local farmers, Etienne Allard. We enjoyed visiting #barley fields in the area and hearing about the crops from our farmers and #agronomists. It was particularly fascinating hearing about the #regenerative #farming practices they use. Then we headed back to the farm for a BBQ, where the Pure Local Farmer of the Year Award was handed out. The 2024 award went to our host Etienne Allard Congratulations! 🎉   It was a fantastic day out. Since 50 years Boortmalt offers its customers a unique experience, the Boortmalt Malting Course.   During this week 25 international customers joined over 15 lectures on malt, we visited 2 #breweries, and did a barley walk in the Pure Local Barley fields.    We educated our customers on all aspects of #malt: from the raw material #barley, the production (steeping, germination, kilining) to #sustainability, innovation, commercial and specialty malts. 🌾 Not to forget the induction into the world of #Whiskey! 🥃 We had a blast and look forward to next year's edition!!
