Meet the stars of Aerospacelab! 🌠 Alex Hill joined Aerospacelab as our AIT engineer in Torrance, California. We are pioneering the future of #space manufacturing by bringing disruptive innovation at scale. Alex joins our team with a unique background in manufacturing and prototyping to help us get there. Tell us about your career journey: I've worked in the aerospace industry for 8 years and recently joined the team from Northrop Grumman. I've worked on everything from design manufacturing to 3D printing and managed the makerspace. Prior to that I had experience in consumer products doing rapid prototyping and design iteration. So you can say I've gotten experience in the full assembly line. Why did you join Aerospacelab? There is a really exciting opportunity here to build on something together from the ground floor. And there's the ability to physically work with hardware that doesn't often happen at larger companies. We get to get our roll up our sleeves, and get really involved. We are creating a culture where we are all committed to working together as a team to deliver our satellites to our customers and focused on driving it to completion. What excites you about our work? I call it the next space race or the second space race, right? We're in an opportunity where the cost to get to space has become so much lower with space start-ups that the cost to launch is lower. Space is more accessible now than it was 100 year, 60 years ago certainly. It's exciting to be at the forefront of that movement where we're all pushing toward the future, trying to understand the possibilities and part of company committed to making it accessible through so many innovative solutions. Please welcome Alex to the Aerospacelab team! Interested in joining our team? Learn more about what drives us and check out open roles. https://lnkd.in/dJ-PkKHS

#TBT: Last month, Aerospacelab announced a technical breakthrough! 💡 By closing the link between our VSP-150 #satellite and our optical ground-station, we became one of the few companies in the world to demonstrate FSOC capabilities using fully in-house designed optical space and ground segments. 📡 Here's to meaningful progress in high-speed and secure data transfers. Follow us to see what we accomplish next! 🚀

💡 Technical #Breakthrough! Aerospacelab successfully closed the link between its VSP-150 #satellite, Gregoire, and its optical ground-station (OGS) in Louvain-la-Neuve. 📡 Receiving optical signals from our satellites is key for demonstrating Aerospacelab’s free optical #space communication (FSOC) capabilities. This opens the door to high-speed and secure data transfers from space to ground but also in-orbit. 🛰 ✔ The team can now prove similar links with its other satellites. ✔ Aerospacelab is one of the few companies in the world to demonstrate this capability with both fully in-house designed optical space and ground segments. ✔ This milestone also showcases the agility and performance of the VSP-150 satellite platform. ✔ This link closure is the first step in the development of our FSOC technologies, enabling more features to be tested soon, both in orbit and on ground. Check out this video from our sky-wide camera picking up the satellite signal. 📽

“Our goal is to meet the high-quality standards of exquisite #satellite constellations with the affordability and agility of new space,” said Benoît Deper, founder and CEO of Aerospacelab. 🛰 In the September issue of Via Satellite, Aerospacelab's agile approach to satellite manufacturing is featured in the Tech Focus Report. Aerospacelab is using an industry-leading approach to vertical integration that is reducing the time and cost of manufacturing satellites. By using standardized parts to build customized satellites, the company's Versatile Satellite platforms can meet the high demand for #LEO satellites.
