Volunteers providing Info & event about ADHD, autism, neurodiversity and neurodivergence for families, teachers, schools

About us

We were called ADHD, ASC and LD (Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, Dysgraphia) Belgium. We are an organisation of Volunteers, who provide a network of support, evidence-based information, and resources for English-speaking Families, and Adults, affected by Neurodiversity. We are based in Belgium, and we also provide resources for teachers and other professionals who work with neurodivergent people. We hope we can spread awareness about these particular neurodivergent conditions, and reduce the stigma surrounding ADHD and others, which still exists today - mainly because of media misinformation - which is something that has a significant effect on many children and adolescents. Please take the time to look carefully at the information here and let others know where they can find authentic evidence-based information and resources about these misunderstood and much-maligned 'disorders', which are unfortunately very real, and which need early identification, and accommodations to enable children and adults to live their best lives, and achieve to their maximum potential. We have a Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/adhdbelgium and a Facebook discussion group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/addysasc We have a new project - Neurodiverse Brains in the Workplace, talking about Adult life. Our goal is to assist Employers; and Employees with Neurodiverse Brains (ie people with ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia/DCD, Dysgraphia, autistic people, and people who are gifted - and many individuals who display the qualities of 2 or 3 of these conditions). * LinkedIn - Neurodiverse Brains in the Workplace Page - https://www.linkedin.com/company/neurodiverse-brains-in-the-workplace/ * Facebook - Neurodiverse Brains in the Workplace discussion group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/1581193268665674

After conducting a huge research project on the effects of walking in classrooms and schools, the researchers at the university of Illinois concluded that movement (especially walking) improves cognitive ability, creativity and a child’s ability to understand. However, in many classrooms in the world, our children are forbidden to move, they can’t change seats, select materials, or even go to the bathroom without asking permission. If your children aren’t moving, their learning will be hindered - full stop! Let them move, and watch the brain light up! #schools #change #university #research #learning #project #creativity #montessori

Empower Your Children to Write a Mini Novel with Upschool Due to popular demand, Upschool is about to launch a series of courses teaching children how to write and publish their very own mini-chapter books. Each course uses thematic learning, where we springboard from a concept—such as volcanoes—into a creative writing process. Children will build their base knowledge and then follow a simple template and guide, allowing them to explore multiple perspectives and craft their own mini-chapter books, just like the example you can see here. If you would like to attend my free teacher training evening and learn more about how your school can get involved free of charge, please register your teachers using the link below. Only 1,000 places are available! Register here - https://lnkd.in/gdcqzaPx #edcuation #litercay #school #teacher #teaching #montessori

Reducing Teenage Anxiety with Counselling | Parent Support | Training and Therapeutic Groups to help young people thrive | Augmenting Therapy with immersive technology

6 reasons why anxious teenagers are struggling with school (in their own words) 🗣️ 1. Being shouted at  2. Classroom size overwhelm 3. Behaviour policies 4. Being called on in class 5. The uniform and sensory overload 6. Being bullied These are all directly from the voices of young people we supported. -Imagine creating spaces where voices weren't raised.  -Imagine a place where isolation was not deemed to be a solution. -Imagine policies that focus on unmet needs. Imagine knowing that calling on an anxious child may activate a fear response and instead discovering new ways to bring their voice into the room. Imagine allowing flexibility in uniform policies to accommodate sensory needs. Imagine bullying policies that protected children in and out of school. I know these things exist. 🌟 I know many of my connections who are school-based have created environments in school where these things are possible. We have worked closely with young people, their carers and teaching staff to make adaptations possible (and we know our teachers need support not shaming too!! ) One young person we supported went from being out of school for over a year to attending most days because their classroom size was adjusted and they received 1-1 support. How did we know how to help? We asked!  It doesn't have to be complicated. ❤️

It is sad that I need to write this But we have all seen the statistics Now that the clocks have changed and we have lost an hour of daylight, there are specific impacts that has on women 37% of women stopped walking in quiet places such as "parks or open spaces" after dark, due to feeling unsafe Women aged 16 to 34 years old felt the most unsafe out of any age and sex group when using public transport alone at night There is a wider issue here that needs to be addressed, and it shouldn’t be the case that things need to put in place to support women who work in your business, but unfortunately it is So here is a list of things that you can do to help women in your business feel safer during these months: - Share daily updates on what time it will be dark so that people can commute in daylight if it allows  - Provide reflective gear like clip-on lights, vests and whistles or alarms - Set up a “walking group” where people can walk together to car parks or transport links   - Promote and educate on free or low-cost apps like WalkSafe  - Schedule a safety session for tips on commuting safety  - Provide chargers in the office for people to charge their phone before leaving - Work with nearby businesses to create a network for check-ins - Create a group chat where people can share when they are safely home  - Create a culture of mutual safety awareness where men are encouraged to look out for everyone, not only female colleagues and are part of the conversation of what they can do too It makes me both sad & angry that my days are cut short now and when I do do anything in the dark it is done with my keys in between my fingers My hope is that there is a world that exists one day where I don’t feel the need to do that or write this message But until we are there, protect the people in your business by supporting them in this time
