Fresh from the hearing of Commissioner-Designate Apostolos Tzitzikostas by Members of the European Parliament, ACI EUROPE noted a number of positive statements and proposals floated during the nearly four-hour long conversation. ✈ Mr Tzitzikostas underlined the importance of connectivity for European regions and the positive impact of transport and tourism as key pillars of competitiveness, ✈ He proposed to table as soon as possible a Sustainable Transport Investment Plan focussed on production and deployment of Sustainable Aviation Fuels for aviation, ✈ He also proposed to allocate funds for resilience of Europe's transport infrastructure, in particular airports, to equip them against extreme weather events caused by climate change. On air transport's climate objectives, we've heard Mr Tzitzikostas reiterate that the ambitious targets set for aviation will be accompanied by supporting measures - including financing - to ensure the industry is able to achieve them. We have also heard that the principle of technology- and mode- neutrality will be the guiding light for all policy tabled during the new mandate. European airports look forward to working closely with Mr Tzitzikostas, if he is confirmed, including on making Europe a leading tourism destination on the global arena - for this key objective to become a reality, the EU needs a strong and competitive aviation industry 🌍 ! Director General at Airports Council International - ACI EUROPE

Thrilled to be in Bishkek today meeting JSC Manas International Airport which operates 11 airports in Kyrgizstan and has just joined ACI EUROPE. Kyrgyzstan is one of the fastest developing aviation market, which like other Central Asian countries combines very dynamic economic growth, a low propensity to fly amongst its (very young) population, a geographically strategic position and under-developped air connectivity. All that means a market potential that only needs to be unlocked - and we very much look forward to support CEO Manasbek Samidinov and his team in the sustainable development of their airports. Closing the day with another fruitful meeting with the Kyrgiz Civil Aviation Agency.
