Jackson Browne - 2004-03-16 - New York - RnR HOF Celebration Concert

Jackson Browne (& Friends)
2004-3-16
Beacon Theatre, NYC, NY

RnR HOF Celebration Concert (Night after Jackson's HOF Induction)
Audience recording, good quality
mp3 (VBR 160-320 kbps) files

More Jackson Browne, from quite a bit later in his career. On March 15, 2004, Jackson Browne was inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall Fame, with his induction speech and comments made by Bruce Springsteen. On the following night, March 16, Jackson staged a celebration concert at the Beacon Theatre in New York with guest appearances from some of his friends and music colleagues, and here it is for you. This fun and energetic show features songs from all throughout his illustrious career, from the early songs of 'Doctor My Eyes', 'These Days', and 'Take It Easy', up through several songs from his most recent album (at that time), The Naked Ride Home, this is a very entertaining show, and the inclusion of the guests just add to the enjoyment. It's not a great (audience) recording, but it is pretty good quality overall. For some perspective and historical interest, I've also included some bonus audio tracks from the actual HOF ceremony the night before, including Bruce's induction speech, Jackson's acceptance speech, and Jackson's HOF performance of Runnin' On Empty (these audio tracks were extracted from the youtube videos, so are of lesser quality, but since they are primarily spoken words, they are just fine). So, enjoy Jackson & friends celebrating his well-deserved induction into the HOF.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - 1978-12-15 - San Francisco, CA

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band
December 15, 1978
Winterland, San Francisco, CA
'Winterland Night' (Crystal Cat) 3 CD

FM Broadcast (KSAN-FM) recording, very good quality
Available in both Lossless (FLAC) and mp3 (320 kbps) versions
Artwork included

Here's another all-time classic live bootleg from Springsteen and The E Street Band, this one considered one of the best overall quality performances and recordings from the legendary 1978 Darkness on the Edge of Town Tour. Whereas the previous Born to Run Tour established Springsteen as one of the top live acts, the Darkness tour blew everything else away, delivering some of his best performances and most legendary full-length concerts, and making him the 'must-see' live act of his generation. This is the highly regarded '1978 Winterland' show, a monster, killer, 3-1/2 hour show and performance. Here's the notes that were included with the download:
" “Tonight you’re gonna hear the concert of your life”, the guy of KSAN states to his listeners at the beginning of disc 1. That says it all! This boot offers great, fantastic, energetic rock ‘n roll. Sound is excellent, performance is excellent and the overall quality is very good." So, once again, here's the Boss, cranking it up to 11, in what many consider his very best tour.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - 1975-10-17 - Roxy Theatre, Hollywood, CA

'Roxy Theatre Night' (Crystal Cat - 851-852)

FM Broadcast Recording, very good quality

So far, in this brief look at all-time classic bootleg albums, we've focused more on unreleased albums, but of course live recordings are a major part of all bootlegs, and when it comes to classic live concert recordings, Springsteen is near the top of the list. So, here is a classic show from fairly early in Bruce's career, from the Born to Run Tour, as Bruce was on the verge of going from a local NJ-NY favorite to a national (and international) superstar. This show has been rated as one of the very best quality recordings from this period, and is certainly a classic, as audiences were getting to hear most of the Born to Run songs for the very first time. So, here is Bruce and the E Street Band, in fine early form, in October 1975, shortly after Born to Run was finally released, at the Roxy Theatre in LA, establishing himself as 'the next big thing' in rock (It was just one week later when he appeared on the cover of both Time and Newsweek simultaneously, and he was the artist everyone was talking about).  Anyway, here is Bruce, back in the Born to Run days, before all the 3-hour plus concerts, big stadium shows, and superstardom; they were just a hard-working Rock band, but in every way showing why they became as big as they did, starting with this album and tour. So, for all who doesn't already have this, here's the Boss in '75.

Bruce Springsteen - Live Christmas Compilations

Bruce Springsteen
Santa Boss is Coming to Town
Live Christmas Compilation (various dates and venues)
The SPL Collection Vol. 6. Santa Boss Is Coming To Town
Very good recording, mostly soundboard
mp3 @ 192

I usually don't post Springsteen shows, not because I have anything against the Boss (actually I am a big Fan), but because there are so many other places and sites devoted to Springsteen (and that do a much better job than I could), there just isn't any reason. However, for these Christmas collections, which I haven't seen posted at very many other sites, it just seemed to be the right thing to do. I really wanted to post something Christmas related, and these are just seemed the most appropriate Holiday themed boots around. So, here are a couple of 1-disc Christmas compilations that are just the thing for the holiday season. As most everyone knows, over the years, Springsteen has been known to put on some big Holiday Extravaganza shows (mostly from his hometown of Asbury Park), complete with guest stars and special holiday songs. These are two different collections of some of the highlights from these shows. Although they both contain many of the same Christmas songs, they are all from different shows, thus every song is at least somewhat different from every other. The first collection (Santa Boss) compiles all of the different Christmas-themed songs from over the years, while the second (Merry Christmas from Asbury Park) tries to capture the feel of the Holiday shows, just in a much-shortened format, thus including Springsteen classics along with the Holiday fare. Both are very good. Hope you enjoy them and have a very Merry Christmas and Holiday Season.
