The Woolworths Spring Water 24 pack is getting a fresh new look! At Woolworths Group, we recognise the far-reaching impact we have on the communities in which we serve. In our 100th year of operation in Australia, we’re launching the Woolworths Group Foundation with an initial focus on providing natural disaster relief. When a natural disaster hits, we want the ability to swiftly distribute funds to multiple charities on the ground, through our existing Supporting Those Affected by Natural Disasters (S.T.A.N.D) program and its partners; The Salvation Army, Foodbank, Rural Aid and Lifeline. The Woolworths Foundation will make this easier by providing direct, rapid and impactful support, to those responding to the specific needs of their community. Donations to the Foundation will come directly from Woolworths Group or from our cause-related water range, which raised over $2.4 million from the sale of Woolworths Spring Water in FY23. With the funds raised, the Salvation Army was able to purchase a new fleet of catering trailers, trucks and other equipment to be prepared to assist and serve the community when needed. We understand the role we can play in driving positive change. In addition to the Woolworths Group Foundation, the Group businesses will continue to support various charities and community organisations as we work together for a better tomorrow. We’re proud to be the fresh food partner of the Aussie team heading to the upcoming Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, and today marks the launch of our “Fresh Fuels the Best in All of Us” campaign. The campaign is inspired by the true story of Paralympic swimmer Col Pearse, whose family helped him create a training pool in the dam on their family farm outside of Echuca, Victoria to train for the Paralympics. “Providing our customers with the best of Australian fresh food is at the heart of who we are and we hope Col’s story and our support for Australia’s athletes at the Games helps inspire the next generation of Olympic and Paralympic champions,” says Woolworths Group Chief Marketing Officer Andrew Hicks. “Since Rio de Janeiro in 2016, Woolworths has been the proud fresh food partner of the Australian Olympic and Paralympic teams. It’s a role we are honoured to play, and we wish all of our athletes every success.” Col Pearse, Andrew Hicks, Jane Saleh, Caroline Squire, Sarah De La Mare, Hayley Mein, Zoe Meredith, Trent Sullivan, Kirsty Mould, Nathan Farebrother, Simone Scoppa, Steve Coll, Lisa Milner, Richard Morgan, Shelley Parsons, Niccola Phillips, Tara Goh, Vanessa Graham, Paralympics Australia, Australian Olympic Committee, M&C Saatchi Group AUNZ

In partnership with the Landcare Australia team, we were thrilled to award more than 1,040 primary schools and early learning centres across Australia with a Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant in June. Our store teams have been out and about visiting recipients to hear all about their plans to create or grow their outdoor learning projects. Over a fun picnic with oranges and apples, Roseberry House Early Learning Centre in Glen Huntly VIC told us about their plans for a veggie garden, where students will plant vegetables and then water and maintain the garden to see where food comes from. In NSW, students at Alexandria Park Community School spent a fun afternoon sharing exciting plans to grow native species in their garden with Minister for Environment and Water Tanya Plibersek MP. Despite the rain, everyone had a wonderful time as they were presented with their certificate by our Marrickville Metro team and Landcare CEO Dr Shane Norrish. Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients and thank you for welcoming us into your schools and centres, bringing together many different members of the community to celebrate the next generation of environmental champions. Our biggest Woolworths Truck superfan had his dreams come true this morning as he visited our Woolworths Glenmore Park store in New South Wales. Two-year-old James is obsessed with our ‘apple trucks’ and looks forward to every delivery! Joined by his mum, Amie, James became an honorary team member, sporting a Woolworths safety vest and name tag, before he got to sit in a delivery truck, and meet our Head of Home Delivery, Jason Coglan. Each year, the Woolworths Pick Fresh Play Netball Grants support grassroots netball clubs and associations across the country. Since the launch of the program, Woolworths has provided funding to more than 311 netball clubs and associations, including Berwick Netball Club in Victoria. Club president Lani Mannays says the grants have made an invaluable contribution to support all members of the community to lead active lives and explore healthier nutrition. “The funds from the Woolworths Pick Fresh Play Fresh Netball Grants have had a huge impact on our club, helping us invest in new training equipment and kids; enhancing our facilities; and enabling us to run nutrition sessions for our junior and senior players,” says Lani.   After winning the People’s Choice award in 2023 and earning a $20,000 grant, the club has invested in all new netballs, bibs, nets and a trolley to easily put netballs away after an action-packed game, allowing for more post-game bonding. They’ve also purchased an industrial blender, which Lani says gives the players “the right nutrition before and after games with healthy smoothies”, and freshened up the club’s facilities. “[We purchased] much needed aluminium seating and roller blinds for the club rooms to keep the heat out, and heaters for the winter to keep everyone warm,” says Lani. Clubs and associations with a Woolworths NetSetGO centre across the country are encouraged to apply at pickfreshplayfresh.com.au. Applications are open until 7 July 2024. Meet Akeesha Snowden, team member from Woolworths Mount Barker South, and a field and track athlete who has her sights set on the Paralympic Games in Paris. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at a young age, Akeesha is now the Australian record holder for both the 100m and 200m sprint events. She also won bronze at her international debut last year at the Youth Commonwealth Games. Family means the world to the driven 19-year-old, “Both my parents are Woolworths team members. My dad is the bakery manager and my mum is the online assistant manager,” she says. Her journey transcends the pursuit of medals; it embodies the virtues of resilience and relentless dedication, and having her parents unwavering support through it all. “My family’s support means everything to me and their sacrifice,” says Akeesha. “I just love racing. There’s nothing else that gets me as excited as the track does.” As she prepares for the qualification process for Paris, Akeesha is proud of her achievements so far and excited about the challenges and opportunities ahead. "I've learned a lot myself and loving the journey,” she says. We’ll be cheering you on, Akeesha! Having the opportunity to work as a cadet baker in the Stanthorpe, Queensland store bakery is an experience that’s better than sliced bread, just ask Ben Casey. Since joining the team in 2022, originally in the nightfill department, Ben has now traded boxes for biscuits and done well to impress his coworkers including store manager Charles. “[Ben] is really confident and passionate in sharing what he learns with the second cadet and the baker as well as strengthening the whole baking team in store,” says Charles. While the sweet smells of finger buns and delicious cakes keep Ben coming back each morning, it’s his passion for the local Stanthorpe community that motivates him most. “I think my favourite, most enjoyable career path has been the bakery and just interacting with customers and talking to them about their day and being able to help them,” he says. Despite being with Woolworths for just over two years, Ben’s bread is already award winning after he proudly entered the Toowoomba Royal Bread show earlier this year. “I placed top 3 in cake and scones and also placed top 3 in bread out of seven cadets,” he explains. If you're travelling through the area Ben urges you to visit for a taste of “the best bread in town!”. Rachael Adkins, Peta Hartley, Danny Baldwin

Meet Tamim Faizi, personal online shopper at Woolworths Customer Fulfilment Centre in Queensland’s Roachdale and one of 42 refugees who joined Woolworths Group as part of our Refugee Employment Program run in partnership with Community Corporate. Tamim and his family migrated to Australia from Pakistan after fleeing the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2021. The TAFE student proudly works alongside his Woolworths team mates hailing from countries such as Afghanistan, the Congo, Burundi, Syria and Ukraine supporting home deliveries and Direct to Book Pick up windows at the Queensland first online CFC. “I started going to TAFE to learn English when I came because I didn’t speak any English,” says Tamim. “After six months my English was better and through the Afghan community, they told me Woolworths needed people for the night shift. I applied and they accepted me. I am working with my brother, my cousins and I’ve made a lot of friends.” To celebrate Refugee Week 2024 and acknowledge issues refugees face and the important contribution they make to our communities, watch Tamim’s inspiring story below.
