We're excited to announce that both Beecroft House and Allawah House are hosting a meanwhile-use student placement program in partnership with Excelsia College. With two passionate Master of Social Work students at each site, these placements provide invaluable hands-on experience as they assist with day-to-day operations and support our onsite wellbeing programs. One of our students, Indu, shares her experience.

How absolutely fantastic!
CEO, Enlighten Education. Director, Education and Special Projects at Women's Community Shelters. Parenting author. Media commentator / columnist.
How AMAZING is this? A young Walk The Talk participant from Peninsula Grammar, 15 year old Kennedy McCulloch, wanted to interview me and write an article on the proposed new Women's Community Shelters refuge that is being opened there next year / our Walk The Talk program for the local paper. I think she did a truly terrific job! This is youth-lead action! https://lnkd.in/gDKXcpvc

Oh what a night! Women's Community Shelters Walk The Talk Awards for 2024 was simply magic. Working in the domestic violence sector can, not surprisingly, be distressing. Yet last night, thankfully, we have so much to celebrate! This year we had 26 schools and just over 4,000 students participate in our Walk the Talk program. More than just words, this is community based action and this is what we championed last night! In fact, our Walk the Talkers generated over $184,000 worth of total value to Australian communities through volunteer hours and monies and goods donated. And this total is still growing, students have lots more planned before the end of the year. We wholeheartedly thank these young changemakers for their participation and support 🧡 We were joined in celebration by some distinguished guests including The Honourable Jodie Harrison (MP Member for Charlestown, Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault) and Dr Hannah Tonkin (the NSW Women’s Safety Commissioner), Annabelle Daniel OAM, our Women’s Community Shelters CEO, Members of our WCS Board, Women's Community Shelter’s staff, refuge volunteers and Chairs, our valued sponsors including representatives from the Paul Ramsey Foundation and Lendlease workplaces who have supported the delivery of Walk The Talk in schools and KPMG Australia who have sponsored this event for us and of course our shining student Walk The Talk students and their champion teachers! Walk The Talk is now in its fifth year. Since the Walk The Talk program launched officially in 2019, over 16,500 students have participated in our school workshops and have supported our work through a significant number of awareness and fundraising activities. Remarkably, 100% of these young people – yes each and every one- when surveyed said they would recommend this program to others. Want to join us in 2025 - either as a Walk The Talk school or perhaps as a supporter of this program (to date we have relied 100% on philanthropic funding)? Reach out to Dannielle Miller OAM, the superstar director of this incredible program. Imagine thinking you were in a loving relationship when it starts to turn nasty, even violent, and you know you have to escape. But where do you go? Who do you stay with? You have children to look after too, so you desperately need a safe place to stay. Did you know that from as little as $25 a month you can help a woman and her children escaping domestic and family violence. You can support her by helping us create new crisis shelters, new accommodation opportunities and you can support her by helping us plan for the future. If we can say yes to new safe places, then we can yes to her when she needs our help. With your monthly donation we can create a safer, more supportive community, together.
