Advocating for better, fairer retirement outcomes for women.

About us

Women in Super (WIS) is a national advocacy and networking group for women employed in the superannuation and financial services industries. WIS advocates on behalf of its members and women generally to government, politicians, unions, employer organisations, regulators, and superannuation funds to improve women’s retirement prospects and access to superannuation. WIS provides education and support to assist women in gaining opportunities to develop broader business, professional and personal networks, and aims to educate the greater community in order to improve their knowledge of superannuation. WIS strongly supports and encourages the appointment of women to superannuation fund boards, and works with other organisations and stakeholders to achieve this. Each year, WIS oversees the organisation of the Mother’s Day Classic, a national fun run and walk established by the network to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research.

Last chance to register for the 2024 Women in Super Conference next Friday! The retirement system is inching closer to allowing women to retire with dignity, with some significant changes recently won after a long battle. But the entrenched systemic inequality is providing the final few hurdles that we need to overcome to ensure that all Australians are equal beneficiaries of our world-class system. There are a number of intersectional threads of inequality that are currently weaving together to tie our system up in knots: gendered violence, treatment of First Nations people, undervaluing of care work and segregation into low-paid industries. To address these issues, and to provide some real and tangible calls to action, we are bringing together the country’s experts in inequality: MPs, CEOs, chairs, writers and more, each with a new perspective to share. Make sure you are part of the change we are yet to see. Register here: https://lnkd.in/eQAvZqMz The 2024 Women in Super Conference would not be possible without our sponsors: IFM Investors, Cbus Super Fund and Profusion.

Less than two weeks until the 2024 Women in Super Conference: Threads of Inequality. This year, we’ve decided it’s time to start addressing head-on the individual threads of inequality that feed into disadvantage across the life-course and into retirement. Our first step is bringing together the nation's leading experts on topics such as gendered violence, self-determination, care work and low-paid industries to discuss what can be done to unravel these interwoven issues, that are currently tying our system up in knots. In Australia, intimate partner violence contributes to more death, disability and illness in women aged 25 to 44 than any other preventable risk factor. Our impactful second session will provide a comprehensive analysis of gendered violence and its impacts, featuring: Rasha Abbas, CEO of inTouch Multicultural Centre Against Family Violence Joanna Fletcher, : Executive Director, Family, Youth and Children's Law, Victoria Legal Aid Megan Jones, Assistant Manager, Industry Engagement and Enablement, Australian eSafety Commissioner moderated by IFM Investors Chair Cath Bowtell There are still a few places left. Register here to be part of this important conversation - https://lnkd.in/eQAvZqMz The 2024 Women in Super Conference would not be possible without our sponsors: Profusion, IFM Investors and Cbus Super Fund.

Public speaking skills aren't just for those who are looking to take the stage - an increased confidence in speaking publicly also builds your ability to critically analyse, and inform and motivate others more effectively. However, public speaking is no longer just about standing in front of a crowd. In a world where Zoom, ChatGPT, and quick video reels dominate the landscape, public speaking and the platforms we use have evolved, however the importance of conveying your message and fostering connection remains the same. Simone de Haas, international public speaking expert, will challenge the traditional approaches to public speaking, and help you to discover the power of authentic communication. By deconstructing the myths, she will introduce new strategies to help you connect and engage with your audience in a more authentic and impactful way. This is a topic that our members have asked for, and we are only too happy to deliver! We would love for you to join us for an afternoon of learning with drinks and light refreshments, as Simone uses her unique approach to help you take your public speaking to the next level, supporting you to not only impact, but also influence many. Making time to talk private markets and gain insights into this asset class, WIS NSW members gathered for an investment-focussed breakfast this week, hosted by State Street.   The panel of international guest from New York, Sophia Mullen, President and Head of Co-Investment Research at EnTrust Global and Anjana Moran,, Senior Portfolio Manager at Aware Super was expertly moderated by Cleyde Hazell, Managing Director, APAC Cross-Product Solution & Head of Product Australia at State Street, providing invaluable global and Australian perspectives on non-banking capital.   As super funds increase allocations to private credit, Sophia brought her global outlook to the room, updating attendees on the importance of understanding the breadth and depth of private credit, which extends beyond direct lending to include various collateral types and unconventional investments like music royalties and art financing.   Anjana provided an impactful update on housing investments and the execution of Aware’s residential investment strategy – these investments can both provide member returns and a strong member link as they can also address the housing needs of the fund’s essential worker members.   Other areas for discussion included, interest rates, the challenges of inflation, geopolitical uncertainty, unlisted asset valuations and long-term investing.   With thanks to State Street for hosting the very successful event. Who are the women in super? As our member numbers continue to steadily grow over time, we've noted that it can be tricky to maintain the same sense of community, and fostering of connections that Women in Super was built on. To combat this, we have begun spotlighting some of our members so they can share their experience, to explore the different ways that being part of our network has influenced their life - both personal and professional - or vice versa. Kim Heironymus, Education Manager at AustralianSuper, was just leaving school when superannuation was made compulsory, so it never even crossed her mind that this might be an industry she would work in. After studying and building a career in marketing, she eventually took some time off to raise her family. Returning to work, Kim found herself working part-time for HIP Super (who have since merged with Prime Super), and seemed to find her calling. The value she found in engaging with members and helping them understand their super echoed her school-time ambitions to be a teacher. Moving on to an Education Manger role at HESTA, her passion only intensified. Working with the fund’s membership, primarily women on lower incomes with small balances, Kim saw firsthand how women were retiring differently. Read Kim's full story here: https://lnkd.in/gfnMabCR We'd love to hear whose journey you'd like to see next - tag a colleague, mentor or yourself!

Yesterday, WIS VIC hosted a workshop facilitated by Lucy Owens from Style Rises who shared her expertise with an ambitious group of women. With her expertise, Lucy empowered women in the room to develop an authentic signature style for themselves, where they not only look like leaders but also feel like leaders. Her mission to guide and inspire, enabled attendees to curate a signature style that not only reflects their authentic selves but also elevates their confidence, brand, and overall presence. The engagement of the group was sensational, there were many questions asked, photos taken and an overall buzz in the room. Thank you to ESSSuper for hosting this great event!
