Opps! Microsoft's Copilot chatbot has caused a ruckus after naming real complainants of workplace bullying instead of generating fictional scenarios at Bunbury Prison. The AI platform provided actual case scenarios and drew from publicly available court information, resulting in the parties being named and circumstances of allegations being communicated. This serves as a reminder to ensure all training content and materials are proofed, support principles of privacy and confidentiality, and are fictional in nature. A major change in how some businesses and managers engage with their workforce kicks in today. The right to disconnect gives eligible employees the right to refuse contact outside their working hours unless that refusal is unreasonable. This means an employee can refuse to monitor, read or respond to contact from an employer or a third party. The right also covers attempted contact outside of an employee’s working hours. The key word here is “unreasonable”. Whilst the FWC have provided some guidance on this term, we anticipate that case-law will ultimately settle the test of reasonableness over time. In the meantime, if your organisation receives complaints or allegations relating to right to disconnect breaches by employers or by staff, engage an expert. More than half of young managers want mental health days off amid deteriorating wellbeing, according to a new survey from Perkbox published in HRD. In today's challenging business landscape, the mental health of young and new managers is a growing concern, particularly with the added pressures of the cost-of-living crisis. Discussing this issue with employers has confirmed our understanding that there is a gap in leadership training and staff are being promoted on skills rather than on leadership. As leaders, it’s imperative to take concrete steps to support the psychosocial wellbeing of these emerging leaders. First and foremost, fostering a culture of open communication is key. Regular check-ins and an environment where managers feel safe discussing their challenges can make a significant difference. Destigmatising mental health leave is crucial. It’s essential for organisations to communicate that taking time off for mental health is as valid as taking leave for physical health. This not only supports individual wellbeing but also encourages a healthier, more productive workplace. Encouraging the use of mental health leave without fear of judgment can prevent burnout and promote long-term sustainability in leadership roles. At Wise Workplace Training, we understand the unique pressures faced by young managers. Our leadership courses are specifically designed to equip them with the tools and strategies they need to navigate these challenges effectively. We can also develop and tailor our courses to meet your specific needs. By investing in these programs, employers can ensure their managers are not only capable of leading but also thriving in their roles. #WiseWorkplace #WiseWorkplaceTraining #ProfessionalDevelopment #LeadershipDevelopment #MentalHealthMatters #YoungManagers #WellbeingAtWork #EmployeeWellbeing #AustralianEmployers https://loom.ly/0EbT3AY

An interesting unfair dismissal case that highlights the importance of ensuring thorough and comprehensive workplace investigations! The FWC noted a few issues with the conduct of the employer: • The reliance on largely circumstantial evidence • The complainant wasn't formally interviewed after the worker denied the allegations • The brevity of the investigation overall.
