The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC), the governing body of football in Western Australia, is seeking expressions of interest from persons wishing to be considered for appointment as a Commissioner. The role of the Commission is to protect and to grow football by overseeing the promotion, development and management of football throughout the State and provide guidance, planning and leadership to all levels of the game. Experience and exposure to community sport, not just football, will be highly regarded. A level of participation and engagement is required with stakeholders as well as the ability to contribute actively at Board level with independence and objectivity. Completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ Governance course is a desirable qualification. There are three positions to be filled, of which each of the current Commissioners are required to retire by rotation and are eligible to stand again and may be seeking reappointment. The three appointments will be effective for a 3-year term from 1 January 2025 to 1 January 2028. The position of Commissioner is not remunerated.

Congratulations to WA All Abilities Football Association who proudly launched their pilot program for Female Integrated Football, marking a ground-breaking first across football in this country. In collaboration with the exceptional team at Sisterup - supporting young women with disability to live a healthier life, through health, relationships, community and learning - delivered a vibrant program featuring music by DJ Primz, football skills, fitness sessions, and for many, their inaugural footy game. The smiles, laughter, and dance moves were truly unforgettable. This program, running over four sessions across eight weeks, is dedicated to providing opportunities for females with disabilities to engage in and enjoy the game of football. Claremont Football Club and West Perth Football Club may have claimed the WAFLW and Rogers Cup Premierships, but it was the fans who were the real winners. On a day when Perth experienced more than 15mm of rain, the crowd continued to show their support for women’s football with 3,724 attending Pentanet Stadium. Four clubs took part in the two grand finals - Claremont, West Perth, East Fremantle and Subiaco Football Club - highlighting the competitiveness of the competitions. West Perth achieved an impressive feat by securing back-to-back premierships and maintaining an undefeated streak for the second consecutive season. Claremont asserted their dominance over East Fremantle Football Club winning their second premiership in the last three years. The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) and Perth Football League (PFL) are thrilled to announce the securing of State Government funding for a major retrofitting project aimed at upgrading 52 player and umpire changerooms across metropolitan Perth. With a $1 million grant from the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF), and additional support from the WA Football Facilities Fund and West Coast Eagles Royalty Reserve, we are set to create safer and more inclusive environments at community sporting venues where football is played. In collaboration with 22 local governments, this project will enhance facilities for individuals of any gender, age, and ability. Last week 170 junior football volunteers swapped the coaching manual and kitchen tongs for a footy guernsey and footy boots to participate in the WA Football AFL Nines Volunteer Appreciation Carnival. The event was an initiative by the WA Football Commission to thank volunteers for their contributions both on and off the field to ensure that football continues to thrive at the grassroots level, providing young athletes with the opportunity to develop their skills and passion for the game. The WAFL Women's Grand Final will take place on Sunday, July 7 at Pentanet Stadium.
