As the finishing touches are being made on The Shed at Inveresk for the University of Tasmania we're reflecting on the enormous contribution these buildings will make on the communities of Inveresk and Tasmania. In 2018 Wardle was awarded the contract to design a campus building in Burnie at the Cradle Coast campus and three campus buildings at the reinvigorated inner-city campus of Inveresk. The Shed is the last of these buildings. It's a place for education and research that focuses on health, medicine, and sciences with facilities such as medical simulation labs, interactive exercise physiology and allied health spaces, a biomechanics lab and food science labs. We're eagerly awaiting the new academic year when the building will be humming with activity.

Wardle recently welcomed Jack Davies to the team, where he’ll lead our Multiple Housing strategy. He brings a wealth of private and public experience and is well regarded for his endeavours locally and from stints in Europe, the Middle East and recently in New Zealand. Jack is already contributing to several important projects at Wardle, including the New Norfolk housing community masterplan. His insight and informed design thinking has been instrumental to the proposal. We're thrilled to have Jack onboard!

We’re excited to collaborate on Derwent Seventy 10, an initiative by David Marriner that pioneers new technologies in housing construction and establishes a world-class trade training college focused on renewable trades. Wardle is leading the master planning and design of a sustainable housing community that will transform the Kensington Park racecourse in New Norfolk into a vibrant neighborhood set within a native landscape. The masterplan concepts were presented to the community late last week and has the support of both Derwent Valley and Brighton Mayors. Partner at Wardle, James Loder said “the masterplan includes 250-300 houses and parks for community use, this is a terrific opportunity to support the scheme by contributing well designed homes utilising new construction technologies”.

Habitats: Coast Feature • Architecture will always have to negotiate this contradiction of building upon nature– its impact on the environment an effort in appreciating it. At Wardle’s Fairhaven Beach House, the turning, tilting and choreographing of surfaces and planes attempts to balance this conflict by creating a house that reflects the landscape that inspired it. A recent walk through organised by Property Council of Australia and Lendlease of the Melbourne Quarter precinct gave Wardle Principal Yee Jien the chance to enlighten the group of the design moves behind Berrbang House a new the mixed-use building. It's looking terrific! The design is centered around the idea of connectivity and community engagement. The North-South Lane, is a bustling thoroughfare, connecting Collins Street to Flinders Street and providing access to the broader Melbourne Quarter precinct. With its fine-grain materiality and attention to detail, the lane is designed to rival the vibrancy of Collins Street's Paris end, fostering laneway activation and amenity. Belerren is a world-class sports and wellbeing centre, it’s a place to host school events, sports training, inter-school competition with a double court gymnasium and additional learning spaces. Wardle have a long relationship with The Geelong College and this project brings together the vision of many, and it's already attracting important visitors who are enthusiastic to train and partake in the great amenities. Officially opened by the Victorian Governor, Her Excellency, Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC last Friday, Belerren is the latest senior campus development for the College. Congratulations and our thanks to the College and community for their support. We’ll be eagerly following future generations of athletes yielded from Belerren.

On Wednesday, we had the pleasure of partnering with Lendlease for an exclusive site tour of Melbourne Quarter Tower, a key part of a vibrant 2.5-hectare precinct blending commercial, residential, and retail spaces. Touring the impressive 34-story development, we were able to explore its ground plane, various amenities, and both commercial and retail spaces. Hearing from architects Yee Jien (Wardle), and Hazel Porter (Woods Bagot), and Development Director Retail, Rodney Bridger (Lendlease), we gained insights into the unique thought processes behind each area, appreciating the sense of cohesion and seamlessness of the entire structure. The architectural details, from the integration of public spaces to the sleek design elements, were impressive to see. We would like to thank our amazing tour leaders for the morning, Project Director Christopher Munn and Senior Development Manager David Batho from Lendlease. We are excited to see the finished development and the important part it will play as part of the neighbourhood. Thank you again to our event partner, Lendlease for this opportunity.

Presenting insights from Mathew van Kooy of Wardle, the visionary architects behind our Bourke and Bowden collaboration. In this segment, Mathew delves into the intricate facade design of Bourke and Bowden, highlighting its fluid and dynamic character. Wrapped in rich terracotta and umber hues, the facade looks to the future while honoring Alexandria’s industrial heritage. Last Saturday it was such a privilege to celebrate NAIDOC Week at our Wardle Sydney home on Gadigal land, 477 Pitt Street, with an event we co-hosted with (Australian Institute of Architects) EmAGN NSW.    In the spirit of this year’s theme of “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud", those in attendance in the new ground floor 'verandah' space were treated to insights about the First Nations' designed elements that have been integrated into the refurbishment works recently completed on site.    Before hearing from the designers themselves, the mood was set with a poetic Welcome to Country by Gadigal Elder Uncle Charles Davison. With a weaving of Gadigal history and the occasional gentle truth-telling, Uncle Charles provided a beautiful cultural context for the contemporary work that was to follow.    Artist Jake Nash spoke about the conceptual narrative and intricate process of production behind his 12m wide video artwork, Country II, which frames one long edge of the verandah space and served as a captivating backdrop to the event.    Jake's artwork (curated by UAP | Urban Art Projects) incorporates elements from the Sydney Basin such as water, rain, flowers, dust, leaves, and seed pods. Despite its urban setting, the artwork operates at a different pace, reflecting the natural rhythms of the land. It is designed to exist in harmony with Country, serving as a timekeeper, a source of knowledge, and a caretaker for all of us.    Jake was followed by Christian Hampson and Jessica Hodge from Yerrabingin Pty Ltd who spoke with equal parts conviction and inspiration about their beautiful re-imagining of the building's rooftop landscape.  Conceived as a Native Food Garden, Yerrabingin has transformed the unused roof terrace into a thriving landscape. The Garden design draws upon Gadigal wisdom to support an innovative landscape response, incorporating 100% native planting with 70% being edible or medicinal varieties. First Nations knowledge sharing through food production is fundamental to the Garden's success, transcending boundaries between food production, environmental stewardship, and civic landscape.     The garden then became the scene for morning tea and a continued conversation about the importance of an ongoing connection to Country and First Nations knowledge in the design of the city. A fitting way, we think, to Keep the Fire Burning....      Thanks to all who attended and to ISPT for allowing us to share our new home over the weekend and for their ongoing commitment to First Nations art and design.
