Help Us Map our Music Industry: Take the Survey! The Victorian Music Development Office and RMIT University are researching roles and skills in Victoria’s music industry. If you do any paid work relating to music we would love to get your input! It will take 10-15 minutes to fill out a short, anonymous survey, and you can go in the draw to win 1 of 5 $100 vouchers as a thank you for your time. Why are we doing this research? There is currently a lack of information about the size, composition and workings of the creative supply chain in Victoria. The COVID-19 pandemic had serious repercussions for the music industry in Victoria, and anecdotally has led to an overall skills shortage, particularly in support (non-artist) roles. However, even prior to COVID, a full picture of the roles that exist in Victorian music industries and their associated skill sets did not exist. This skills mapping activity will be important in creating a fuller picture of what the industry looks like, and what pathways may exist between different roles in the industry. Take the survey now: https://lnkd.in/gFDVVVxz #RMIT #VMDO #VictorianBusinesses #CreativeVictoria #VictorianMusicIndustry #RolesAndSkills #Survey

Recently, VMDO supported Ariel Blum to take part in the CLOCK Your Skills Sector Expert Bootcamp. Ariel Blum is a Melbourne-based music producer who has worked with artists including NIASHA, Emily Wurramara, St Ives, Jacki Tut, Angie McMahon, Allara Briggs Pattison, HAYCH, Ajak Kwai, Gordon Koang, and UK artist Florence and The Machine. In 2013, Ariel co- founded GRID Series, a nation- wide Artist Development platform that supports outer suburban emerging creatives around Australia. For 12 years, GRID Series has served as a bridge between industry and historically under-resourced communities in outer suburban regions, collaborating to develop ideal environments for artists to thrive. GRID Series has run programs in Victoria, NSW, QLD and WA with many artists who have come through the program having gone on to establish themselves in the sector, including Srirachi, Flewnt, Clarissa Mei (pa77ience), Franjapan and Nomad. To date, GRID Series has supported 70 artists from around Australia in creating their first releases, performing their first live shows, connecting them with industry mentors and producing artist documentary films that deep dive into what it is like to be a creative living in the outer suburbs. Swipe to read some highlights and takeaways from the bootcamp! #VMDO #CLOCKYourSkills #Bootcamp #MusicIndustry #GRIDSeries #Melbourne

It's tears and cheers at the VMDO this week as we wave off departing Director Aijia (AJ) Li, or as she was lazily known, AJ, has steered the VMDO ship for almost two years, navigating occasionally choppy waters with a firm hand, calm demeanour and large tub of Maltesers. 👋 😭 We wish Aijia all the best in her future endeavours, what ever they may be. Whoever next gets to call AJ their workmate is lucky to have her (and her Maltesers). 💗

Music Market Trends Revealed – APAC & ANZ Recently, Scott Ryan, Luminate’s EVP (Commercial Music Consumption, Insights and Quansic), presented key industry updates at the All That Matters entertainment and media conference in Singapore. The presentation focuses on trends in market-level audio streaming, artist country of origin and the urgent need for cleaner metadata solutions in a global marketplace. Three key statistics from Ryan’s Insights Matter: Music Insights for the Global and Asia Pacific Markets presentation below: 👉 Japan’s Regional Streaming Share is Rising. Japanese artists have seen a significant increase in their streaming share across the Asia-Pacific and Australia/New Zealand (APAC+ANZ) region, highlighting the potential for international collaborations and further expansion of Japanese music across borders. 👉 Engaging with Foreign Content. A staggering 95% of Filipino music listeners engage with foreign content, making the Philippines one of the markets most open to global music. For international artists, the Philippines presents a prime opportunity for increasing reach and visibility, especially for genres and artists that are underrepresented locally. 👉 Australia is Engaging with Streaming Growth at a High Level. Australia is one of several markets in APAC+ANZ that has notched double-digit audio streaming growth in 2024. As Australian audiences become more engaged with streaming platforms, artists from outside the market have found success tapping into this fast-growing segment of the global music industry.
