About us

Victoria Police was established in 1853. It provides policing services to the Victorian community 24 hours a day, seven days a week, working to keep more than 6 million Victorians safe. Police officers and Protective Services Officers (PSOs) are supported in their roles by public service professionals who work as administrators, managers, and specialists in a range of functions such as legal services, accounting, psychology and forensic sciences. Our workforce is expanding with the recruitment of more than 3000 police, 100 PSOs and the introduction of the Supervising Police Custody Officer role. Victoria Police is an inclusive, equal-opportunity employer that values employees’ skills and experience. We offer flexible, challenging and rewarding careers that make a real difference to the community. Effective frontline response service delivery is provided through 54 Police Service Areas (PSAs), split across 21 divisions within four regions - North West Metro, Southern Metro, Eastern, and Western. These regional boundaries correspond with those of other Victorian government departments, enhancing cross-department service delivery, particularly in the area of emergency management. A career with Victoria Police was not on Constable Bailey Edgerton’s mind when he finished his criminology degree. He found himself asking ‘Where to from here?’, and it was the lure of a ‘fun and exciting’ job that eventually led him to policing. With recruits now able to nominate a country location to work in once graduating, Bailey saw it as the perfect opportunity to return to his country roots after a few years away studying and for work. Born and raised in Horsham, Bailey knows the regional city and its locals inside out. This has helped him build trust and rapport with the community, even with individuals known to police who he says are “generally respectful and don’t cause any issues” when he runs into them.⁣ Now over six months in, he’s quickly learned that being a country cop means thinking on your feet and being resourceful. “One aspect I really enjoy about country policing is getting to work alongside various specialist units, such as the crime investigation unit, family violence investigation unit, and sexual offences and child abuse investigation team.” His advice to anyone interested in a policing career is to speak to local officers about what the job involves and familiarise themselves with the recruitment process. If this is you, our upcoming regional police careers expo in Mildura is the perfect opportunity to do just that. Meet and speak with local members about their policing experience and learn more about benefits (there’s plenty!) of country policing on Sunday 15 September. Event details including how to register, visit > https://lnkd.in/gVr3KyCq

This National Child Protection Week, we’re urging young people to be considerate about sharing intimate images of themselves online and to make a report if it happens without their consent.     It is illegal to share an explicit image or video of someone without their consent in Victoria – yet police are still seeing it occur, particularly among those under the age of 18.     Figures from the Crime Statistics Agency show there were 310 intimate image-based offences involving victims under the age of 18 in the year to March 2024, compared to 251 the year prior.     Detectives from the Sexual Offence and Child Abuse Investigation Teams (SOCIT) and Victorian Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET) have been working tirelessly to investigate reports of the crime and support victims.     In concerning trends identified by investigators, explicit photos and videos of underage students, shared with consent at the time, are later being further circulated online via social media to other students – this time without the person’s permission.     Other cases can include young couples, who, after ending a relationship, might then intentionally share intimate images of the other party for revenge or other reasons, without that person’s consent.     If you, the young person in your life, or anyone you know has had their intimate images shared without their consent – speak to police.     If you do not wish to make a formal report, police can still assist you in seeking further support. Online forums like ReportCyber and the eSafety Commissioner are also available to make a report.    In an emergency, always call Triple Zero (000).     Read more: https://lnkd.in/g-4tXfht  #familyviolence #childprotection #ncpw

A groundbreaking, Victorian-first with Victoria Police enables our students to become a police officer while attaining our criminology degree. Under the initiative, students completing our three-year Bachelor of Criminology and Policing train to be a police member at the academy in their final year. Jonathan Bingley, will become the course’s first student to graduate later this year, said it offered the best of both worlds. The 23-year-old switched from our criminology degree in 2022. “I have always wanted to be a police officer – but I also wanted to do uni. I thought it was a really good opportunity,” he said. August marked 25 years since Victoria Police first met with the Equal Opportunity Commission Working Group on Gay and Lesbian Issues, as it was then named, and what is now our LGBTIQA+ Portfolio Reference Group. This anniversary marks a significant milestone in Victoria Police’s journey towards equality for LGBTIQA+ Victorians and employees. Over the years, the working group has played a pivotal role in shaping Victoria Police policies, procedures, and training programs, bridging the gap between Victoria Police and the rainbow community, and advocating for fair treatment, equal protection, and cultural competency within our organisation. Through collaboration and dialogue, the group has worked tirelessly to dismantle biases, challenge stereotypes, promote respect for all and hold us accountable for our actions. While challenges remain, the achievements of the group illustrate the power of collaboration and solidarity in creating positive change, and we look forward to another 25 years of advocacy and progress. A shared passion for sports, sneakers and community safety is what it’s all about for this family.     Meet the Darlows, Detective Inspector Craig and his son, Constable Jason.     The two have a love for the Kangaroos (the footy kind, not Skippy), NBA, Supercross, Ice Hockey and Baseball (just to name a few). It's this joint passion for sports of all sorts that has taken them right across the globe and even started a related passion for collecting sneakers (they have close to 100 pairs between them!).    But their shared passions don’t end there. Both pride themselves on supporting community safety, which is what drew both to pursuing careers as police officers. And both did so at the age of 18 years old.

Did you know that 91,300 people from across Australia accessed specialist homelessness services in 2022? That’s four times the number of employees working across Victoria Police, needing access to basic living needs. Our State Emergencies and Support Command came to together as part of a Women in Policing Local Committee (WIPLC) project, to donate 100 warm winter coats to The Salvation Army Australia 🧥 New Image Dry Cleaners also assisted this cause by dry cleaning the donated coats for free! Hopefully this helps those in need stay a little warmer during these cooler months. Thank you to all involved in the initiative 💙
