Updates

  • We want all Australian kids to have the opportunity to live happier, healthier lives.   And a big part of helping us track that is the Future Healthy 2030 Countdown.   Launched in 2023, the Countdown highlights research and proposes pathways to help fulfil our goal within a generation.   The theme for 2025 looks at learning and employment pathways, and how they shape the policies and practices that impact the health of our kids.  Expressions of interest to have your work published as part of the Future Healthy Countdown 2030 supplement in the Medical Journal of Australia are now open.   Check out the link below for more information.

  • Check out these legends!   They know that young people haven’t been given all the facts when it comes to vapes.   That’s why they’ve all volunteered to become Monash University Vape-Free Champions.   They’ll be heading to Monash University campuses around the state to share UNCLOUD resources and information and make sure that young people can see vaping for what it really is.   It’s all part of our Vape-Free Victoria partnership program – head to the comments to find out more.

  • When vapes first appeared in Australia there were no warning labels. Now we’re going a step better. We know that the best way to reach young people is through other young people - so that’s exactly what we’re doing. We’re joining forces with 30 local councils, five sports teams and five unis to support young people with the information they need to say no to vapes. It’s all about giving young people a platform to warn other young people about the dangers of vaping. Check out the project at the link in the comments, and spread the word.

The Strategic Communications Manager delivers innovative marketing strategies, provides strategic advice to VicHealth and acts as a conduit between the Social Marketing & Communications group and the wider organisation. This is a full-time role offered on an ongoing basis. The External Communications Manager leads VicHealth’s social media, publicity and media relations strategies as well as oversees the production of various VicHealth events. This is a full-time role covering a parental leave position. Applications for both positions close on Tuesday 10 September. Head to the link in comments for more details.

  • You can do more than just watch the Paralympics at Westfield’s free, dedicated live sites. Disability Sports Australia have teamed up with Westfield to create a space for accessible sports clubs to demonstrate their sport and increase public participation, too.   Applications from sporting clubs and organisations are being taken on a rolling basis until September 9.   We’ll pop a link in the comments with more info.

  • Whether you’re at home, school, work or just living your life – you deserve to be able to show up and thrive as your full self.   And that includes young queer folks – the very people who started Wear It Purple Day to help shine a light on their community.   The team at Wear It Purple have created an incredible series of resources to help parents, carers and anyone who works with young people to understand how to make the world a better place for LGBTIQA+ young people.   They’re well worth the read – we'll pop a link in the comments.

  • If you take one thing from today’s Conversation Hour, we want it to be this: getting active is good for your health, no matter your age, body shape or fitness level. Thanks to Richelle Hunt, Richelle Olsen from Escaping Your Comfort Zone and This Girl Can Victoria Ambassador Tash for sharing your thoughts and experiences. You can catch up with this week’s episode via the ABC Listen app or at the link in the comments.

  • Drake might be cancelled, but so are unwalkable streets.     Bad planning, dodgy footpaths, and dangerous streets are bad for us all.     That’s because walking is great for our health, and the environment.     The team at Victoria Walks are on a mission to make Victoria more walkable.     Their consulting services are helping make more walkable communities, and breaking down barriers to get more people pounding the pavement.     If you’re a developer or have a stake in places where people walk, check out the link in the comments to get their help.
